Don Valley Hotel & suites

Please advice on Don valley hotel.

We plan to stay at this hotel due to it's reasonable price ? $ 120+ $ 14 daily parking and 2 s.pool for our girls, but not sure about public transport access since it is some 6 mi from D. town.

Other option is Court yard by Marriot D. town $155 +$25 daily parking.

thanks

Hi abyssinia01;

The only attraction that you will be close to is the Ontario Science Centre. All the other attractions that you will want to see and do are located downtown.

By public transit, you will spend about an hour travelling to and from downtown Toronto, more during rush hours. If you decide to drive downtown, parking is quite expensive.

Best Regards

I'd go for the Marriott. A number or relatives have stayed there and they enjoyed it. There is an indoor lap pool as well as a children's wading pool. The real attraction is it's around the corner from Maple Leaf Gardens and a walk from other attractions. I'd actually call this area mid-town.

Have you tried the Holiday Inn Express or the EconoLodge or for a bit of a splurge, the Novotel? You won't need your car at all and could save quite a bit in parking charges.

When you consider the cost of fuel will you really be saving that much? Not only that, but who wants to be stuck in traffic getting in and out of the city, your time can be so much better utilized. So my vote goes to the Marriott also. I have stayed at that Marriott hotel and it is a nice, very clean hotel.

Good luck!

The hotel is near the Don Valley Parkway. Unless you have family or business out that way, other than the Ontario Science Centre, and the Japanese Cultural Centre, there is relatively little in the way for tourism. Mainly there are tons of office buildings, most notably the gigantic IBM complex. There is public transit, but it is mainly geared to getting people in and out of those office buildings, so other than rush hours, the transit isn't going to be that accessible for you. If you are looking to stay a little bit outside the city centre for the cost advantage, there really isn't a huge one. As other have pointed out, the time you will have to give up to transit, or the cost of parking your car everywhere will eventually use up what minimal saving you would have made. So here's another vote for Marriott.

Hi,

The Marriott is a 10 minute walk north of the Eaton Centre, a huge mall that anchors all the retail in that area of downtown. College subway station, which gives you access to the whole city, is on the next corner, and also at College Street is a streetcar line that will take you west to Kensington Market & beyond. Higher end Bloor Street is about a 15 minute walk north.

You will be able to walk to dinner & enjoy a little stroll afterwards, instead of driving to the closest strip mall for a chain restaurant experience then heading straight back to the room for the night.

Definitely go with the Marriott!

Hi, abyssinia01;

There are a ton of things here to keep you occupied!

As this thread was pretty focused on the hotel selection we would suggest you start a new topic regarding what to see & do. (You should get more responses that way). In addition to the question, let us know a little about what you & the girls are interested in.

cheers!

And before you start a new thread, since I see you're pretty new to Trip Advisor, you might want to check out the links on the left side of this page, about things to do, Travel Guide, etc. Or the FAQ on the right side. Every forum on TA is laid out the same way, so these show up on all the different cities. Often, the questions that you are asking will already be covered in those areas.

Or, use the handy search feature at the top of this column. Something like "children's activities" or the like will net you a lot of previous threads about the same subject.
