Often see on here the question about getting a shuttle to/from the airport or to take bus/subway. This is my experience last week.
I had got the train into Toronto from Montreal so this is just the journey from downtown to the airport. (Pearson).
I was staying at the Royal York with my wife. I had checked the price of the shuttle bus, over $40 for both of us. Our flight wasnt until 6pm. We had plenty of time on our hands so I pitched the idea to my wife, who said she was game.
I had previously gone and got us both subway tokens, so as not to do it when we had our cases with us. We both had a medium to large trolley case each. My wife had a couple of hand bags and I had another bag I put over my shoulder.
We went to union station and got the subway(university line to St George). 2pm in the afternoon, both got seats, no problem with luggage. Changed there to Bloor/Danforth line towards Kipling. You have to get the escalator down. Got on train to Kipling(last stop). train a little busier, but still got seats no problem having our cases in front of us.
At Kipling went up escalator and got 192 Airport Rocket. Bus was waiting. Bus busy, still everyone got a seat. Many on there had cases, some bigger than ours. The odd one or two got off. Only one person got on. A bit tighter with our bags being in front of us, but still ok.
The whole journey took just over an hour. We didnt feel hassled and found it to be pretty plain sailing. Would definately do the same again if i had time on my hands. Might be less inclined from the airport to downtown if it was later or if I had got off a long flight. Would certainly do it both ways with hand luggage only.
$3.00 each. For total journey and pretty quick. I have got shuttle buses in the past and I always seem to be the last drop off, which can get pretty tiring after a long flight and can take ages too. You don't have worries with traffic jams to and from Kipling!!
Hope this helps.
