Official visit to Toronto, Canada for 15 days...Need advice

Hello All,

Well there is a planned work visit to Toronto, Canada from 24th June 2013 to Mid July. My company has sent my passport for Business visa application. This will be my first visit outside the country, so needs some advice and some local fooding and lodging tips from people who have been to Canada or presently there.

I will be getting $160 as per day allowance in which we need to manage every of our expenses. There will be two people in this trip, one of my colleague with me. We are planning to take some packet foods from here to save some dollars.

Some of the queries-

1. Please advice on some decent Hotels for staying. Moderate pricing with decent facilities. Stay would be around for 15-20 days

(Facilities - Kitchen will be preferred and Wi-Fi connectivity)

2. In Toronto which area we should prefer to stay which has good commuting connectivity with food facility at nearby places.

3. Suggest places to eat. Moderate pricing mostly Indian tadka and occasionally different cuisine.

4. Mode of travel there. We also plan to hire cabs for our work. So what are the options

5. Will $160 be enough for a day

6. What other things we should consider while we are there.

7. What stuffs we need to carry, basic idea.

Thanks in Advance

Three questions right off the top:

1. Does the $160 per day include your lodging (hotel) costs?

2. Will you and you colleague be sharing a hotel room?

3. Where in Toronto is your place of work? (ie closest major streets intersection)

$160 per day is not enough unless you share accommodations. Using taxis for local transportation will be prohibitively expensive.

Hi irfanlai;

Many foods are NOT allowed to be brought into Canada, from other countries. I would suggest checking what foods are allowed so that yours will not be confiscated by Canada Customs.

1. Does the $160 per day include your lodging

(hotel) costs?

-Yes it includes all lodging n food

2. Will you and you colleague be sharing a hotel

room?

-Yes we will be sharing the room

3. Where in Toronto is your place of work? (ie

closest major streets intersection)

- My work location will be my Hotel room

where we will stay and only for 4 days

of drive work for which we will have to

hire a cab. So we can take any Hotel at

any location, we are not bonded to any

office.

If you and your colleague share a room you should be fine with that budget. There are lots of inexpensive Indian restaurants in town. In order to save money I would not take a taxi but instead I'd think of using public transportation such as bus, streetcar and subway.

You should consider staying in the suburb such as Scarborough (just outside downtown Toronto). There are lots of East Indian restaurants in Scarborough so you won't have any problems finding your food preference. If you need to get downtown, you can use the bus or subway.

You should consider renting privately as it is usually cheaper than staying in a hotel, and you can find a place with a kitchen.

You can look for private rentals through this website website - www.airbnb.com

Sometimes risky to rent through some of these websites. Better off in a hotel.

Hi irfanlai;

Toronto is Canada’s largest city, 4th largest in North America after Mexico City, New York, & Los Angeles. Where in the city would you be going by taxi ? (closest main intersection)

That information would help answering your questions.

Drive location we will get to know once we are in Toronto....Mostly it will be in downtown and suburbs...

Most Important - We need LTE network coverage where we are staying....So I hope LTE network is available all over the city(LTE network of all mobile operators)

I checked on Tripadvisor for Hotels and I got this "Special Lodging". So how good are these special lodging if 2-3 people want to book a room for 2 weeks.

Checked reviews of "Planet Traveler Hotel Toronto" and find it to be good location wise and price wise.

What are the other options if I am looking for Special lodging for stay. Please suggest.

Thanks
