Neighbourhood near the AGO

Friends are going to an exhibit at the AGO - we are passing on it and wonder if there's an ethnic neighbourhood in the area we can spend some time in and then meet up with our friends later?? Thanks.

At Dundas and Spadina there is Chinatown and just west of Chinatown is Kensington Market....both of which you can spend hours just looking around and enjoying sights, sounds and smells...

Those would be the main ones yes -- the AGO is basically right at the east end of Chinatown.

And while not an ethnic neighbourhood per se, the block of Baldwin between Beverly and McCaul (due north of the AGO) is a surprisingly eclectic mix of restaurants and cafes, currently a lot of Japanese ones.

If you end up on Baldwin (highly recommended) there's a great Asian- inspired Gelato shop on the south side a few doors in from McCaul called Kekou. It's great!

Three areas that you can select from. China Town a block west on Dundas and Spadina. Kensington Market just north and West of China Town, and Baldwin street. all have very good restaurants which are not expensive. Right in front of AGO is a delightful pub, The Village Idiot. Two blocks east on Elm Street at Yonge st. is a very good Thai place with a great nice Buffett - The Bangkok Gardens.

Yes - you're right at the end of Chinatown. Just go west - hit Spadina and you're in the midst of Chinatown. Further North/West - Kensington!
