1st trip to toronto, with 19 yr old daughter

Hi,

We are family of 3, going to Toronto for the first time. Really need help deciding on hotel.

I am torn between the Fairmont Royal York-gold room and the Radisson Harbour (I am club Radisson member) appx. $50.00 more per nt for Fairmont. Is it worth the difference to stay in gold room? Reading reviews not sure if room is big enough for 3 at Fairmont compared to Radisson. We are going in June flying on Porter Airlines into downtown airport, going to concert at Molson Ampitheatre, Blue Jays game, Falls day trip and possibly theater tickets. Would like to be able to walk easily to get around. Holding room at Fairmont, Radisson has now gone up in price. So I think I need to decide soon. Any advise on hotels and things to do would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Location wise, the Royal York is better....only problem with the Royal York right now is the construction at union station which is not the most appealing....I think I'd go with the FRY still...

Thank you for your reply. I am leaning towards the Fairmont. looking on trip advisor today it sounds like there is a lot going on in Toronto when we will be there. June 22-29. The concert tickets we have is for June 25. So we have to be there then, how busy is it going to be downtown during that time? I might be able to change the dates a little, haven't bought air tickets yet.

The weekend of the 28-29th will be very busy, especially since Toronto is host to World Pride this year....if you are uncomfortable by a "fabulous" parade, you may want to turn your day trip to the Falls into an overnight...

Well - the biggest event is World Pride which takes place June 20 - 29th ... so hotels are going to be booking up fast. Events for that will likely be held throughout the city, with the Pride Parade taking place on the 29th. Otherwise it's the usual mix of conferences, baseball games, etc.

Canada Day is July 1st, which is a Tuesday this year so many people will be making that weekend prior as a long weekend.

Do you suggest a full week for the first visit? Is there enough for us to see or do or should I drop 1 or 2 nts off trip? Since most of the things we have scheduled are in evening, except falls trip, I am worried days may be slow of things to do.

Well what do you like to do? There are museums (including the famous Bata Shoe Museum), historical and architectural walking tours, galleries, shopping, a day trip over to the Toronto Islands - rent bicycles, intriguing neighbourhoods, restaurants with cuisines from pretty much every country in the world, live theatre, the zoo, the aquarium etc etc etc.

I think Toronto will keep you quite busy, especially if you are into checking out "neighbourhoods", you have a lot already planned...

Yes I think you are right, I will plan on full week. We would like to see theater/musical while in town, but I can't see anything scheduled for that time. Before we arrive and for late summer/fall productions are listed. Asked hotel concierge about it and he said to early for schedule to be out-is that true? Maybe I am not looking at the correct theater site?

Www.mirvish.com for theatre tickets- it looks like Flashdance is playing while you are in town. You could also check out The Shaw Festival in Niagara on the Lake or the Stratford Festival.
