Transportation, Accommodation etc.

Hi I will be flying in from Newfoundland for a weekend event in Hampton Inn and Suites, Barrie in Sept. I decided to fly in a day early and now I have to figure out what to do. Thinking I may spend the night in Toronto but have to figure out affordable transportation (from the airport as well as to Barrie the following day) and accommodation. Unless something interesting shows up I'm left with either shopping and/or Wicked at Mirvish Theatre. I used to live in K-W and Burlington Area many years ago so I don't need to anything too touristy but I'm open to suggestions.

I'm looking for suggestions for a place to stay convenient to transportation and shopping, but safe and budget friendly. If I decide to go to a show can you buy discounted last minute tickets somewhere as I'm only looking for a single one. Thanks

What does budget friendly mean? Give us a $$ amount, and bear in mind the Toronto International Fil Fest takes place first two weeks of September ... city is busy, expensive and often sold out.

Though you may pay a bit more, getting a hotel in the core allows you to easily access most touristy things downtown and to depart Union Station the next day for Barrie... It's worth the extra Money you may spend...

Thanks - I forgot about TIFF, I arrive on the 4th the day it starts. Budget friendly - was looking for less that $100, preferably less than $75. TIFF will make it much higher - when do they post the schedule for the films?

Are there any cheap (less than $75), convenient and safe B&Bs in downtown Toronto? I've tried the links on here but most don't have prices and the B&B website is just an alphabetical listing.

Try BB Canada:

I doubt you'd find something under $75.... especially during this busy time of year ...

Thanks - both Downtown Home Inn and Toronto Garden Inn have rooms (shared bath) in that price range, just concerned about location. The first is near Young and Bloor so good for Subway transportation. The second is on Seaton, so concerned it may not be the best where I'm travelling alone.

Nothing wrong with Seaton ... I have friends who live there... perfectly safe. There are a few seedy characters in the neighbourhood, but using your street smarts (which you should do in any strange city) will get you home in one piece. You can always take a cab if returning late at night, but during the day it's fine.
