NIagara Falls Tour - Overnight Stay??

Hi

a group of 7 of us (mixed ages youngest 26 oldest 60) are going to toronto next may. we were planning on staying overnight in niagara falls and we found a great tour which takes in niagara on the lake, the falls, maid of the mist tour, winery tour, the floral clock and also free time at the falls to explore. this company also gives us the option of being dropped off at our hotel at the falls and being picked up the next day.

after that long winded explanation my question is simple, do you think staying overnight is worth it? or would we see plenty during the actual day trip? is it worth spending a lot longer at the falls. (the main reason for staying overnight was seeing the falls by night really and plus we didnt want to feel rushed) but at the same time it would be a shame to waste any of our toronto holiday.

if you managed to get through this message without your head hurting any advice/tips are welcome.

p.s. the tour is with http://www.niagaratours.ca/

Hello aubtemp.

Many people have asked if it is worth it to overnight in Niagara Falls, so do not worry you are not alone, in wondering about that. The only reason I would suggest staying overnight in Niagara Falls, is if you are interested in the fireworks (if they are showing them the night you are there) and seeing the falls at night. Otherwise from your description of the tour you will have plenty of time in Niagara Falls. From your itinerary it sounds like it is a well planned tour. The Maid of the Mist is not to be missed!! Just an awesome experience. I am glad to see you are going to Niagara on the Lake it is worth the trip alone, for Niagara on the Lake.

So in conclusion it is a personal thing, if seeing the falls at night is important then stay, if not I would head back to Toronto.

Personally when I am on a trip I prefer to stay in one hotel as I find it just breaks up the trip too much by moving around.

I hope this helps a little and have a great time next May when you visit.

i would definately reccomend staying overnight based on the demographics of your group in niagara falls there is alot of walking and by the sounds of your itinerary it sounds like a full day there is lots to see and do in the niagara area you could easily spend a whole day in niagara on the lake alone. if you are theatre lovers you may even consider the shaw festival at night in notl if not you will appreciate just being able to relax after such a full day

great advice about the theatre, i think our party would be interested in that.

we've just booked the holiday a couple of hours ago and we've included a night in niagara. because of the size of the group and ages (!!) it would be nice to be able to relax and take our sight seeing slowly and full appreciate the falls and niagara on the lake. i'm hoping to persaude them now to do either the whirl thing (sorry cant remember what its called now) or a helicopter ride!

in may the shaw festival is in full swing afyer victoria day weekend (third Monday) prior to that you can attended a rehersal performance at a reduced cost if you goggle shaw festival theatre after probably october they will have their scheduled upcoming performances there is usually about 4 different plays to chooses from. The helicopter rides are really nice but expensive i would definately reccomend the maid of the mist tours or if you like speed the the jetboat tours is also available

I notice you are from England where I also come from and at the risk of upsetting the locals I thought I would maybe put things into perspective.

My wife and I have just returned from a week in Toronto and we spent a day at Niagara Falls. It was absoloutly amazing viewing the falls and we did all the touristy things like going on the Maid of the Mist etc and it was well worth doing BUT staying overnight?

The falls are overlooked by the Sheraton Hotel where we had lunch but when you look behind the hotel there is only one way to describe it - Blackpool!

It is one great big tacky fairground and most of the people on our tour were disappointed at what had grown up around a major tourist attraction.

It maybe to your taste but certainly not ours but don't be put off visiting the falls though - a must see.

No offense taken as the amusement park and Niagara Falls city is certainly not why all people visit the Falls, but you would be surprised at the number of families, casino lovers and twentysomethings that love the energy, midway atmosphere and night life in Niagara Falls.

I am not one of them and prefer Niagara on the Lake myself, which certainly is worth a visit.

Unless theatre and more time in Niagara on the Lake is planned, I too might recommend only a day tour for the group travelling here.

My 19 yoa daughter and I took a day bus trip from Toronto to Niagra Falls. We did the Maid of the Mist, and it was wonderful. Also, we toured Niagra on the Lakes. Beautiful.

Stay over night? NO way. I wished we would have rented a car and driven ourselves, as we had too much time that we felt was wasted. We most assuredly did not like anything around the falls, once you left the immediate area. Go up to the hill and it is tourism at it's worst. And while Niagra on the Lakes is beautiful, you can spend two hours there and feel that you've seen a lot.

Just my opinion, and my daughters! Good luck.

Hi

i'm travelling to Toronto tomorrow and am planning to do the same tour, however rather then Paying the extra to the tour company for the next day return we have decided to make our own way back to Toronto the following morning, as the tour company only takes you back to toronto in the afternoon and we want an earlier start. Greyhound buses run back to Toronto for about $20 and this works out cheaper then paying the supplement for next day return anyways!

if its your only trip to Niagara i do recommend staying at for one night, firstly because why rush things unnecessarly ?? and secondly the falls all lit up at night are spectacular.

Yes its tacky n touristy but for one night only why not njoy the tackiness of the place. Just throw yourself into it!!!

it has a great buzz about it if you let yourself go.....

i'll report back fully after my weekend away to review the tour if you wish.

You will enjoy everything on your tour! If you have extra free time, ignore Clifton Hill (which is the area being referred to as Blackpool-esque) and consider Journey Behind the Falls, the Spanish Aerocar at the Whirlpool, or hop the People Mover and see the Butterfly Conservatory. And, before you start mentally picturing neon signs mere feet from the Falls, know that the Niagara Parkway is a buffer area not only right around the falls, but extending miles down the river to Queenston.
