Attending Eminem/Rihanna in Detroit In Aug, Stay In Windsor

We are going to attend the Eminem/Rihanna concert August 23rd and wonder what the Hampton Inn & Suites, Quality Suites Downtown, Comfort Inn & Suites Ambassador Bridge, Holiday Inn & Suites Ambassador Bridge are like?

We figure seen as we will be taking the VIA Rail from Toronto to Windsor, it would be cheaper and more convenient to stay in Windsor.

How much is a cab ride across the border as I am sure the Tunnel Bus will be just too packed to take across. We want to check out Detroit Downtown for dinner and then hit the concert.

You can check the ratings on TripAdvisor for all of those Hotels but just to let you know that only the Quality Suites Downtown are going to be located near the tunnel. The others are located on the west side of the city and will add at least $10.00 to your cab ride.

If you are going to do dinner in downtown Detroit (recommend Greektown) then I would say the tunnel bus should be fine. You will be heading over at least a few hours before the concert. The vast majority of the concert goers will be heading over much closer to the concert time.

According to a taxi fare finder (online) the cost to go from the Casino (downtown Windsor) to Comerica is $18.00. Depending on your hotel, if you stay downtown, it should be just a bit less than this.

Great, thanks for the info. I realized that those hotels on Huron Church Rd are a bit away from everything in Windsor, Travelodge, Holiday Inn on Ouelette and Quality Suites seem well located

The Holiday Inn on Ouellette is located closest to the tunnel (thinking about cab fares). One side of it actually overlooks the entrance/exit to the tunnel. The Quality Suites is the hotel closest to the actual location to catch the Tunnel Bus. The Travelodge would give you the best views (if that matters to you) providing you get a room facing the river.

Given that August 23rd is a weekend night, all the downtown hotels may be filled with drinkers from the downtown bars.

Well now it is a tough choice. The fact downtown hotels will be filled with drinkers is fine, we are looking at convenience to being close to things in Windsor. All three choices are good too, so it is a tough choice. All have similar reviews.

Travelodge would be $93/night, Quality Suites would be $116/night and Holiday Inn on Oueltte would be $136 a night. So need some thoughts from all here what would you choose? Each has it's plus on location for sure. Convenience for cab, bus and being on the waterfront all are hard to decide.

Personally I would save the bucks and book at the Travelodge. The difference in distance for taking a cab would cost about $1.00. The difference in distance for walking to the Tunnel Bus would be about 3 blocks. All 3 hotels are within a 5 block radius of each other so convenience to the "hustle and bustle" of downtown Windsor is all the same.

With no car, I'd avoid Huron Church...,it's lonely and loud...

WindsorTenor is correct, save the $ and stay at the Travelodge, do dinner in Greektown and the tunnel bus should be fine.

I stayed at Travelodge back in 2007, it was just fine and location was great.

Tunnel bus might be not as jammed as you might think, a taxi is going to be expensive since there is always a wait at the border. I would use the tunnel bus to cross the border and then flag down a taxi

I have stayed at all 3 locations. I agree with the others and would stay at Travelodge.
