Travel to and from La Ronde

We are going to La Ronde for day and watching fireworks competition this Wednesday. Is subway recommended or driving? My husband thinks the subway is the way to go because he thinks getting out of the parking lot and driving would be crazy. I have heard taking the subway from La Ronde will be just as crowded and crazy. Any advice?

The subway will be crazy, but much much much better than driving... don't even THINK about taking your car. Streets and the whole Jacques Cartier bridge is blocked off and it's mayhem before AND after, especially if you're driving back into downtown...

Besides, although the subway is jam-packed, everyone's in a festive mood, so it's actually a lot of fun. Unless you're claustrophobic, in which case take your car but be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait. Oh, and get there early to find parking...

Do the subway. If you drive, and miss the exit to La Ronde, you're screwed because the exit is on a bridge down to the island. The Montreal traffic is usually Bostonian bad, and will be hellish for the festival.
