Four Gay Friends Visiting Montreal in 3 Weeks . . .

Hello. Four gay friends are visiting Montreal later this month and we need some recommendations on things to do and places to eat. We want to explore the village and old montreal, but want to know what not to miss. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here's 2 things to get you started:

Well, most everything gay is centred around the Village of course, so you'll get your people watching fix there. You'll see how easy everything is here -- very refreshing. But you should definitely wander a bit further -- le Plateau is a wonderful neighbourhood, for example more mixed, prettier, and more interesting. Just head north from the village, across Parc Lafontaine, and you're there.

Food in the Village is actually not that exciting. You don't have to avoid the restaurants -- they're all right, but not particularly good deals or particularly exciting, and if you're real foodies, consider casting your net further; check out www.chowhound.com or www.montrealfood.com for more suggestions. Of course, late at night when you're stumbling home drunk, you really should stop off at Club Sandwich or the Resto du Village for a poutine and for seeing the urban weirdness that the wee hours can bring out...

As for what not to miss: hmm... well, it depends on what you like, I'd say don't miss Cabaret Mado, except that perhaps you don't like drag shows, for example... if you're more specific about what you like, we can help you better. Luckily, everything is pretty accessible, so you can just wander around, and people are friendly and will help you out no problem, especially if they think you're cute :)

Montreal's a party town, and it's very relaxed about the word that Trip Advisor doesn't allow us to use (hint: it starts with S, ends with X, and has an E in the middle). So you're sure to have a good time; most Americans are very pleased with how positive it feels here -- everything's just a little more fun, less uptight, easier, simpler, and just a touch wilder...
