When is the best time to travel to Montreal?

My girlfriends & I are planning a trip for later this year, & were thinking of checking out MOntreal. This trip is a getaway to relax & have fun as we all haven't travelled together for some time, & we wanted to try something different. We heard the best time of year to visit Montreal is during the festivals? Is this true, & what/when are these festivals?? Thx!

The BEST time to come to my city is June/July, that is the ONLY time I actually enjoy being a Montrealer. I would highly suggest coming for F1 weekend, it is a unique party experience! (if thats what you are into?) This year will be the best by far only because it is during a long weekend in Quebec (St Jean Baptiste weekend) and EVERYONE will be out..EVERYONE! Its going to be insane! I cant wait!

Audreybelle is right and wrong.

June/July is a great time to come to montreal for sure. As for grand prix weekend... its more hectic and crowded depending where u go.

It is worth seeing for sure, but if you take a weeks time, come earlier/later to enjoy the calmer parts of montreal.

Festival wise, we have a really big jazz festival that brings in alot of tourist. If you are into jazz, you definately gotta come. Best hotel for the jazz fest is the hyatt.

Audrey probably can get you the schedule for when the festivals starts.

If you love beer..than you must visit 31may till 04jun..if you like car racing..than 21-25jun..all depends of your interests..always something fun to do in our city with and without festivals.

hotel always more expensive during major events. I would visit here like a wed till friday..if you plan on touching any of the festivals dates.

Sunny regards from Montreal

As per chowds request and of course to help others coming to Montreal, I found a great site with all the festivals coming up this year for Montreal:

There you go. This is my second post since returning to Montreal from my vacation and am glad to see a few old faces here :-)

Yeah, apart from F-1 my favourite festival is Jazz du Montreal, I simply love those 10 days of Jazz and another few weeks of Just for Laughs or the comedy festival. Sincerely, Truly and really it is the best time of the year to be in Montreal. You won't regret, in fact you would like to visit Montreal again and again.

Nobody mentioned on hot and muggy Montreal can be from late June to mid-August. Days with the thermometer clinging to the 90's and 80 % humidity are almost the norm. And the temperature doesn't drop so much at night. And don't forget the unexpected downpour. Montreal has a reputation as a nordic city but in fact you will never believe it in July!

So if you want to catch some of the festivals etc, be warned of this. Weatherwise I think that late May (after Victoria day) is probably the best time, nice warm days, not so much rain and everything is blooming.

Fall is unpredictable but, thanks to global warming, it has been exceptionally good in the last few years. September might be quite warm and you can tour the countryside around Montreal to watch the Fall foliage. In Montreal proper it will be more around the Canadian Thanksgiving that the leaves will change and it will be a little more chilly. It is also the begining of the regular cultural season so not so frantic as the festivals but a lot to do.
