Best way through Montreal to PEI

I will be leaving from Windsor ON at 6 am on a Friday, which will put us in Montreal probably around 4pm. Any suggestions as to the best route? We are travelling to PEI. I have seen a few responses about crossing to the south side of the river to avoid the worst traffic--has anyone driven both? I am afraid of the rushour traffic, but can't leave earlier or will hit Toronto rushour. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Follow-up on this thread. For drivers wanting to bypass Montreal, the new Route 30 opens on December 15, 2012.

This new link opens up a 4-lane alternative between Route 20 / 540 at Vaudreuil-Dorion and Route 20 west of Drummondville.

Happy motoring.

Thank you for the update. I have saved it in a folder for future reference. FYI on the return trip we came home through the US on toll road highways, much faster than the Canadian route.
