Have those nightly student protests subsided yet?

Yes.

Today is a big protest though, so it may make the news.

And before we start another thread on this topic, may I remind everyone that we have discussed this ad nauseum previously, and that quite a few of the threads were removed as we strayed from how it affects tourists and got into politics, which isn't this forum's goal. See tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g155032-i51-k546413… for one of the posts that remains.

I just need to know so I decide whether to go or not.

So I can expect big protests on weekend then?

So it's still going on?

NO! THere is nothing going on at all. MIllions of people holidayed in Montreal this summer, they had a great time. NO protests this weekend at all.

I would not let it deter you at all. I live in the outskirts of Montreal but travel downtown at least once a week all summer, and have not even been slightly inconvenienced by the protests.

Just go. Forget about the stupid protests. We've been there during this spring and summer several times and the protests didn't interfere with anything. Just ignore them. There's a good chance you may not even notice them. We're going back for 5 nights over Labor Day weekend as a matter of fact. Not worried about the protests at all.

I agree, just go and enjoy. At first earlier in the year it did concern me, but the more I've read, and even experienced in Quebec City, a march which was very peaceful and even festive, don't let it bother you. As said previously, chances are good you'll see nothing.

I was there during the protests and the marches went right past our hotel. They were actually quite interesting and not at all threatening. It was quite organized and the police were there taking care of traffic. It provided about 10 minutes of distraction. We did see some of the protesters walking to the gathering location as we returned from dinner. They were no problem.

I wouldn't let any thought of protests deter your visit.
