Hotel Prices in May

I have been trying to reserve a hotel room in downtown Montreal for a week now. It seems the prices have gone up significantly for May compare to April. My date of travel is May 27-29, which is a long weekend in the US. I am not sure if this drives up the hotel prices or it is just higher in general in May. When is the peak travel time in Montreal? Will the hotel prices be cheaper, in general, if I visit Montreal during the first week of September?

Yes its true that the prices in May are higher than what they were in April that is due to the beginning of the peak season. September is not low season so, prices in general would be more or less the same as they are in summer (not as high as it is for special ocassions like Grand Prix, Jazz Fest, Comedy Fest, etc.) In fact, for most hotels in Montreal August and September are as good months (in terms of revenue) as June and July are.

Weather in September is nice and generally a lot of tourists from across the border visit Montreal on week-ends. If you are looking for low prices or package deals then you have to wait till October.

Yes, May is the beginning of the tourist season so the prices at hotels do increase. Note that some hotels will further increase their rates once July and August arrives.

The prices for the hotels will generally not decrease until October, although you may find that some hotels have slightly lower rates in September than in July or August (but still higher rates than during the winter months).

If you are staying 3 nights in Montreal, you may want to consider the Summer Sweet Deal, which is available at select Montreal hotels. Under the deal, the 3rd night is 50% off. In addition, you usually get some sort of upgrade (e.g. upgraded room, full breakfast, etc.) in addition to shopping and casino coupons. The hotels that are participating in the promotion include some of the largest and most popular hotels in Montreal.
