Osheaga/Jean Drapeau Park questions

Has anyone been to this music festival before? I may be in town that weekend. Looks like it has some very solid acts.

Just wondering...what is Jean Drapeau Park like? Sounds neat – out in the middle of the river. I see they also hold Gran Prix there? And there is an amusement park? So just curious as to the vibe of this festival. IE - does it have a nice outdoorsy setting…like an amphitheatre with some seating and then just a lot of blankets out in a field? Or is it in the in-field of a race track? Or the parking lot of Six Flags?

Where is it in proximity to downtown? Is there public transit out there? Cheers

If you look at a map of the park, you will see that the racetrack is on Notre-Dame Island, as is the Casino and the beach. On Sainte-Hélène Island the far north is occupied by La Ronde Amusement Park and it's parkings.

The other 2/3 of this island is park with a lot of greenery, swimming pools, métro(subway) station, etc. There is a huge Calder stabile scullpture and every week-end in summer there is PikNik Electronik hold there. As far as I know the main stage for Osheaga is not there but just two minutes away. If is a meadow that has been designed as a half round slope, a bit like a Greek theater but all in grass. That's where things will happen, there might be some chairs offered but just bring a blanket and a parasol and you would be fine.

the two main stages are in front of a massive gravel field where most people stand to watch the shows. further back it turns to grass and slopes uphill so you can always put down a blanket and watch from there (though as the day goes on, it fills up especialyl for the main acts so dont wait until the last minute)

you CAN drive but noone does because it's impossible to park. Take the Metro, depending on where you're starting from (downtown/old mtl/plateau) is around 20 min give or take. the only caveat i'd say is that immediately after the concert, since everyone takes the metro to get off the island, it gets really packed and it can take a very long time to get back to the city (depending on if you run to the metro and beat the crowds).

osheaga is always a blast though, dont miss it

Heres the Jean Drapeau Park

The race track is obvious.

Casino is the structure at top of the lake.

The subway station is just across the second small bridge on the left.

And we can also clearly see the meadow / Greek theater / gravelyard on Sainte-Hélène Island (the one with the big ball) just over the first bridge and the small lake.
