1st time to Montreal,Osheaga festival ++ ?

Hi, I'm traveling to Montreal for 5 days July into Aug for the Osheaga music festival--just myself and 16yo son. I'm getting a little bit panicky as it approaches because I'm having some difficulty piecing a plan together--I usually love adventurous road trips but this is pushing my limits. I can't find (or understand) decent info about the metro system and/or parking...getting around.

I booked at the Howard Johnson on Metropolitan Blvd --decent price, looked clean, ok reviews -- but now I'm concerned it's not close enough to a metro station--I really don't want to spend 4+hours just traveling to and from the festival or anything else we might want to do while there...

can anyone offer a few insights into navigating the city-and maybe about what to expect for the festival too? much appreciated

HoJo on Metropolitain is NOT a great location. By public transportation, it will take you more than 1h30 to get to the Osheaga site. (so 3 hours round trip each day!)

Bus 193 to Jarry Metro...then...you go to Parc Jean Drapeau station (Yellow line)

If it's possible,I would get a hotel in Longueuil (Sandman or Le Dauphin) :in the suburbs... but 10 min away from Osheaga.

Don't panic! I have been to 2 concerts at this site by myself and it was just fine. The last time I stayed downtown and just hopped on the metro. Very easy. The first time I booked last minute and had to stay out in the suburbs which I wouldn't recommend. It was fine but took too long.

thanks for the thoughts--changing hotels isn't really an option, I'm not seeing anything that is in my price range and avaiable for that time. I did see the transportation info from google, as you mentioned Josee...that's what started my panic--I would be fine driving closer and parking at a lot to hop the metro. any suggestions for that? I tried to look into that but it seems that metro stations there do NOT have parking garages as they do around here.

I found a hotel that still has availability in Longueuil--Motel R-100. any thoughts? the issue is still transportation--I've read that driving to parc jean drapeau is not an option during Osheaga...limited parking on the island--so I'm trying to figure out how to navigate the metro. what is the situation with parking in Montreal? I was trying to use the website parkopedia to see what's around and it doesn't seem there are garages readily around metro stations and/or the ones listed are what I would consider private--like the university of sherbrooke in Longueuil has a parking garage but I would think it's only available to students, no?

The metro is great, it has solid city coverage and for the most part will get you where you want/need to go in the city...

I've never stayed at the R-100. TA and Booking.com opinions are not bad... however, when you factor in the parking fees you will have to pay close to the metro... it is not always a deal.

Other options I suggested could be a tad more expensive (and WAY NICER!!!!) but parking would be free and you could walk to the metro. (and it is 1 station away from Parc Jean Drapeau station.)

If you are staying with your first pick... and you want to park close to a metro, I suggest metro Radisson. It has a free parking. The address is 7155, Sherbrooke East, Montréal...

https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Hotel+Howard+Johnson,+Metropolitan+Expy,+Saint-L%C3%A9onard,+QC+H1P+1X3/7155+Rue+Sherbrooke+Est,+Montr%C3%A9al,+QC+H1N/@45.5928034,-73.5810252,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cc91ef2e8d01dcf:0x218d4b24b0c41681!2m2!1d-73.584382!2d45.588154!1m5!1m1!1s0x4cc91dcd362d89a9:0xa3e0c54204167ea6!2m2!1d-73.5395912!2d45.5892609

Other metro stations in that area don't have this type of parking and it's not always easy to find legal and free parking in Montréal Streets. (especially close to metro stations)

thank you guys. I'm going to stick with the reservations at Howard Johnson's and park'n'ride from a lot into the city. It seems like the best option overall, I'd rather spend money having fun than on a hotel--Sandman did look nice--but the $800usd price did not.

Have you considered a B&B?

Also there is plenty of parking lots in Jean-Drapeau Park. No problem there although they are paying parkings but if you consider the métro both ways it will not be so expensive. Also some parkings might be away from the Osheaga grounds but still doeable, unless there is only the Cap sur Mer one that is available, that one is way too far.

Then you can also park free at the casino but, unlike Las Vegas, minors are not allowed anywhere in the casino. There might be some ways to get out of the parking building without going through the casino but I am not so sure about that, it has been some years since I parked there.

I hadn't considered a B&B, but just started looking at some residential listings on tripadvisor. I'm starting to go into overload now though--so many choices and too much info. I booked hojo for 4 nights @ 357cdn. decent price, in budget still leaving enough money left over for us to eat--lol. now I see some places that are apartments with kitchens ect for $250cdn in the NDG and Plateau areas. the idea of saving antoher $100 to use for fun rather than sleep is appealing but not knowing much about these places is a bit scary to me, I have a tight budget so I can't afford to make a mistake that large--with joward johnson you know what you are getting with a big chain--whether it's illinois or montreal

Make sure to have access to a parking on the Plateau or NDG... These are difficult area to park....
