My husband and I (in our late 20s) are heading to Quebec to experience our first white Christmas (we are from Australia).

Is it traditional in Quebec to have a Christmas meal on Christmas eve or during the day or evening on Christmas day?

Does anyone have any restaurant suggestions for a Christmas meal?

Thanks

Hello,

I would recommend Panache. It is an amazing restaurant with the best food and it is very romantic. I am not certain of their hours of operation during the holidays, however here is a link... just follow the dining section.

I have heard the Chateau Frontenac is a great place to dine also.

I hope you enjoy Quebec City!

Hi,

My husband, sister and I are travelling to Quebec City for our first White Christmas too (we are from Austrlia). We have been searching furiously trying to find a place that will serve a traditional Christmas dinner like stuffed turkey and pumpkin pie. Can anyone recommend a place that has the good old traditional style dinners rather than a gourmet French cuisine.

Cheers

Hello.

I have just checked around, and it looks like you may find what you are looking for at the Chateau Frontenac.

Here is a link to their website. On the botton right of the homepage you will see a section called Christmas Celebrations and it has all the information there.

It would be the perfect spot for Christmas in every way. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Also, Besides Panache which I recommended earlier this evening, another restaurant is Toast. It is a small restaurant with great food and service. I am not certain about their Christmas hours although I know they were open on Thanksgiving Day. I am sure a quick email or phone call could answer your questions.

Hope this helps a little. Best of luck!

You could also consider a meal at the restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens, in the oldest house of Québec City (built in 1675), about 200 feet from the Château Frontenac. It is not a diner, but is probably cheaper than Château Frontenac. See website and menu (under "Québec Specialties" -- we traditionnally eat what is called there 'Country Platter' plus stuffed turkey) : http://www.auxancienscanadiens.qc.ca/Homeang.html

It is too early to be sure if they will be open only for Chritsmas Eve, or on Christmas day itself - restaurants usually let people know around the beginning of December.

And for the poster who will be lookink for pumpkin pie: GOOD LUCK :-) !! The traditional pie here (not only for Christmas but all through the winter) is sugar pie. If you're lucky enough to find one made with maple syrup, you will know what heaven tastes like.

I forgot to mention: Aux Anciens Canadiens has an early bird menu: cheaper if you order before 5PM. You might want to e-mail them to enquire about their Christmas specials, and if their early bird menu will still stand at this exact time.

Hi

Thanks for your suggestions. I will look out for the sugar pie. We are staying at the Chataeu Frontenac. I have looked at the menus. I am a bit fussy. Coming from Australia I like the old traditional style food (not fancy stuff like deer, duck, emu etc).

I have emailed the Chataeu to see what other stuff they have at the hotel to eat.

What is the likeliness of us having snow when we are there?

Thanks

Your likeliness of having snow is about 90%. Unlike Montreal,, the absence of snow around Christmas time is a true rarity in Québec City. Whatever you end up eating at the Château, you will be fine: they have prime quality food, and the chef, Jean Soulard, is renowned.

Hi there.

I'm travelling to Quebec City this year for Christmas. Did you happen to find a good spot for christmas lunch or dinner?

All of the suggestions listed above are excellent. I would also add Le Saint Amour .... and, where ever you choose, I would recommend making reservations early, since not all establishments are open on Christmas Day. Last year was our first winter trip to Quebec City. We arrived on Christmas Day. Unforutnately, I waited too long to make reservations and was unable to get a table at my first choice (Panache). To my surprise, though, they spent a fair amount of time on the phone with me, referencing some published list of restaurants open Christmas Day and so we dined at Le Saint Amour. They had a limited, but very special menu that evening and it was truly wonderful, as I'm certain was Panache, also.
