We are planning to visit the Yukon in late August to try and avoid the mossies and hopefully see the Northern Lights and fall colours. We will be flying into Vancouver and have 3 weeks in total.
My questions are:
Is it best to fly into Whitehorse or is the drive from Vancouver worthwhile taking into account the time we would lose in the Yukon by doing the drive.
Should we plan on spending all that time in the Yukon or should we include Alaska? We live in NZ so its a big trip for us but we have made the mistake before of cramming in too much and don't want to do that again.
I would love to drive the Dempster Highway or Top of the World road, are we best to get a 4WD or an RV?
Wildlife is our focus although I understand the Dempster isn't that great, where would be the best places for us to view bears in particular.
I am looking at a lot of suggested routes but would love the thoughts of locals or those who have travelled the Dempster in particular.
Thanks in advance.
