Afternoon at leasure in Whitehorse

We are going to be in Whitehorse this weekend, but have to check out of our hotel Monday morning, but our flight out is not till 5pm.

We were thinking of lunching in town, and checking out the sights and highlights of Whitehorse for the afternoon. Having zero experience with winter artic conditions, is it practical to be walking around Whitehorse. We will probably still have our artic clothing and boots that we are hiring in Whitehorse.

We will also have to deal with our luggage for the afternoon.

Thanks in advance.

The weather is supposed to be quite warm over the weekend...not warm compared to Sydney probably, but warm to a Yukoner! The last forecast I looked at was predicting highs around -4C. You won't need your full arctic gear for those temps and will be fine to walk around for a couple hours.

Your hotel might be willing to store your baggage for a few hours.

Thanks for that. It was 47 degrees here the other day, so we will notice a change.

Well, it was -47 here a few days ago with the wind chill! Be glad you missed that! Enjoy your time in the Yukon!

Well our afternoon at leasure in Whitehorse was fine. The sun came out, and it was only -5. Coffee at Tim Hortons - fine, lunch at Subway - not as fine, and just a walk around the town - city. The town is nice and very interesting to walk around. However, it is small and in a couple of hours you will have seen it all.

The very nice man at the Tourist info center helped us with our luggage problem.

Overall, our visit to the Yukon was great, eventhough we didnt see the Lights. The weather was kind, only down to -15 one evening. Got caught up in the excitement of the Dog Sled race to Dawson, good tour of the wildlife park, and stayed at a lovely lodge about 40 k out of town. Even organising our very cold weather gear from here worked out a treat. It was loaded into our transfer bus and fitted fine. When you are arriving after 5pm on a Friday evening into Whitehorse, you appreciate that the cold weather clothes are there.

Seeing we missed the lights, we are thinking of coming back next February - 2014.
