Here are some websites which may help for accomodation. There are a number of Great Hotels, B& B's etc in Downtown Halifax but pricey iif you are arriving late and leaving early and with children there are some decent motels on the Beford Highway as well ( only 10mins back to downtown on direct route- no problem navigating)

Depending on the age of the children they probably would enjoy a trip on Theodore Tugboast, or the Harbour Hopper. The old fort at The Citadel may also interest them.

Point Pleasant park beautiful spot for them to run around even go for a swim with excellent views ot the Noth West Arm, Mac Nabs Island ( Hangmens Beach Thomas Raddell book) and the Harbour

Hope this helps somewhat !

Since it sounds like you will have a car, consider places such asthese two which are not downtown but quite close:

Or if you are coming quite soon, try Hotwire or Priceline. The Westin frequently has deals through them.
