Heavenly 2011

Planning a trip to ski Heavenly in March 2011. Need some local advice on a couple different properties that I have been checking out.

First off...this is just a ski trip with some buddies...so accomodations do not need to be five star.....just need a place that is close to gondola, and a place to crash at night....This will be a 4 night stay....3 day ski event.

Can you please comment on the following properties...I will try to list in order of initial preference (as of now)

1. Best Western Station House.....free breakfast....really good total AAA rate.....decent reviews on TA......not sure if too far away from gondola.

2. Either of the 2 Marriott properties......location seems right......but price might not be right.

4. Embassy Suites.....location seems right.....breakfast/cocktall reception sounds decent....but lots of mixed reviews.....

Those are my intial four choices....am I missing any local gems that I should consider??.........

Thank you in advance

We've stayed at Embassy Suites and it was fine. Good location to the Gondola and the Casinos. All the rest would be fine as well.

When our son goes skiing with his buddies to SLT, they stay at the Holiday Inn Express also in same area, because of the good rates. Free parking, breakfast, wi-fi, indoor spa and sauna, etc.

Thanks for the Holiday Inn Express tip.....the rate is cheaper than the Best Western Station House......on Google Earth the Holiday Inn Express even looks a little closer because it is on the main strip....we may have a winner.

A quick South Tahoe Express Shuttle question...does anybody out there know what is the latest trip they make from Reno airport to SLT?? I went on their website and the last bus is like 9 pm something......I have a possible flight coming in after that....was wondering if they have later trips during the winter season. They say they have 10 daily trips...but when I look at their schedule they only list 8....was wondering if any of the local experts could help out.

Thanks.....

My husband went on a guy skiing trip, and one of the 4 arranged a stretch Limo to pick them up at Reno, so there are other means of getting to SLT beside the shuttle.

I just looked and found 24 hour Lakeshore Taxi van that has a $90 rate for Reno to Tahoe for up to 4 people. There are probably others.
