need lodging advice on generral atmosphere QUICK

need to make a decision on where to stay. Have narrowed it down to a couple places in both Tahoe City and King's Beach.

Here are the facts...

>will be there mid June...i know too early for some activities to be open, but pleasant weather, hopefully.

>want to be on the water, or within a block or two with a view.

>want to be around $200.

>want area that is more quiet, scenic, "in the mountains" feel, etc.

>would like to be near conveniences, but not necessarily in a heavily developed, high traffic area..(.just dont want to drive 30 minutes to restaurant or activities)

>activities we are interested in are outdoor...kayaking or rafting, horseback, bike trails ( need rental), etc.

>couldn't care less about casinos

> we have 3 days.

My main question is: Is Tahoe City or King's Beach a better fit for us?

Need to get on the ball with reservation, so any advice much appreciated!

Thanks,

Miller

This place has some dates open in June: www.tluxp.com/bre/properties/Vanni-House/

They have a couple other houses in that price range on the north shore. I really love this company. All their homes are very clean and nicely appointed.

Tahoe City and Kings Beach area aren't usually quiet. They are bustling in the summer. It should still be fairly quiet in June though.

Here's another one very close to a bike trail: http://www.tluxp.com/bre/properties/IL-Fiore/

I've stayed a couple of times at the Pineywood home. The rim trail can be accessed by some trails/dirt roads a couple of blocks behind the house. It's not walking distance to town though.

thank you for those suggestions, and so quickly.

If these towns are busy, is there another, less congested area you can recommend? we can do a hotel OR vacation rental...doesnt matter. a neighborhood or something with a few commercial businesses is fine, just want to "feel" we are more "in the wilderness"

thank you!

A house in a neighborhood will feel quiet. I haven't been to Tahoe in June in a while. Usually I'm there in August & it's bustling. It depends on where you're coming from how it feels to you. I'm traveling from a fairly quiet town of 2,500 people. People traveling from the bay area of LA will feel that things are very quiet. It's mainly along that main road that it's louder and more crowded--because there is only one road.

June is still not that busy in Tahoe compared to the traffic most associate with summer crowds.

The thing is if you want to be on or near the water there aren't alot of places that are on the water and away from the main road.

Tahoe Tavern in Tahoe City is one of those rare situations where the condos are nestled in a wooded area near the water, away from the road and near town:

Scroll dwon to see the low season summer rates (thet high season doesn't start unil after teh 25th of June):

It sounds like you have narrowed your choices down between Tahoe City and Kings Beach. Tahoe City is bigger and has more traffic. The intersection at Hwy 28 and 89 is a pretty busy area. If you are looking for an area of less traffic between the two choices, Kings Beach might be better for you. However, some of the recommendations listed above sound good for you.

As a side note- I just returned from a couple of nights at the North Shore and it was summer at the Lake. I saw people golfing at the Old Brockway golf course in shorts. A week earlier it was snowing in this area. Such is the weather this time of the year in the mountains.
