First ski trip to Lake Tahoe.....help!

My husband and I are planning a trip at the end of Feb. Land on a Wednesday night leave the following Monday. We plan to snowboard 3 of the 4 days. It sounds like we would enjoy the snowboarding on the North side of the lake most (squaw, sugar bowl, alpine meadows, etc.)

I need help and have questions I can't seem to find on the forums.....

1.) is there a shuttle system that runs to these resort in town to/from hotels

2.) do we need to rent a car to get around or is public tranportation/shuttle available?

3.) where should we stay if we want to ski 2 or more of these places?

4.) we prefer to stay somewhere that we can catch a shuttle easily, walk to resturants, bars, night life, etc. Does this atmosphere exist on the North Lake side? Like a town type atmosphere to walk around in the evening after skiing, or should we be considering going somewhere else?

please help! thank you

I would stay in Squaw or Truckee.

You can take public Transportation to ski www.tahoeskishuttle.com/Shuttle_Schedule.pdf

And the shuttle between Squaw and Alpine:

Take TART to get around.

There is a night bus that you can use at night until 2 am.

Here is a link to the website for buses in the North Lake Tahoe area.

I wouldn't plan on Sugar Bowl, it is a ways away from the other resorts.

If you stay at Northstar or Squaw Valley you can hit Alpine, Diamond Peak, Squaw and Northstar pretty easily.

Even though Truckee is bigger than Aspen, it is not as tourist oriented. The restaurants and bars of North Lake are rather spread out. There is no one, central place to stay. If you don't have a car, Kings Beach and Tahoe City or Tahoe Vista, might not be great.

Northstar is self contained with restaurants, a village, etc and Squaw has a nice "village" area as well, but they are not cities like Aspen and Park City, they are more like Snowbird (or Deer Valley) and Snowmass than the cities.

Go through this website.

If you are staying in North Lake Tahoe, Northstar resort has room rentals and shuttles around the resort.
