Just a quick TR on our latest adventures in North Tahoe. We have been to the area several times.
We stayed in Carnelian Bay, renting a condo. For longer stays, that is our preferred method since it generally allows us more space, plus kitchen, laundry, etc.
We did the Truckee River float and had a great time. The following day, we rode our bikes up the river trail, turning around Squaw Valley ski resort. The views entering the valley are beyond spectacular. We had parked at Commons Beach so when we got back, we spent the afternoon there. Total mileage for that ride is about 15 miles and mostly flat pathways.
We had a fun day at Sand Harbor, arriving about 10:15 with plenty of parking available. We had reserved a tandem kayak for me and my wife so out we went! Weather at that point was clear and sunny. We paddled along the coastline, taking pictures, etc. After returning to the beach, my teenage daughter and I spent an hour on a jetski, with her as the driver. Boy, I didn't know she was so skilled! It was great!
Finally, I did some snorkling in the cove. As a socal surfer, I own plenty of wetsuits and my 4/3 was well suited for the crystal waters. Oh oh....storm clouds! Within 30 minutes, thunder and lightning! yow....rain started pelting us! We ran to the car and headed to the warmth of our condo.
We did several hikes in our local neighborhood, added SUP and more bike rides, continuing our outdoor theme. Enjoyed frozen treats at Poppy's in Tahoe City and elsewhere. Spent an afternoon wandering around Truckee.
Overall, an excellent visit. Looking forward to our next trip.
