Lake Tahoe Honeymoon Questions.

Hello all!

My fiancee and I are planning a honeymoon in early June and were considering visiting the Lake Tahoe area for about 5 days with a 3 day trip to Napa Valley. We have done a lot of reading on forums and reviews, but wanted to get some opinions from seasoned travelers/locals. Our budget is around $2500 to cover food, lodging, and activities.

1. Where would be a good area to stay (North/West/South Lake Tahoe areas), any specific hotels/lodges you might recommend? We would like a romantic place that is nice, but it doesn't have to be 5-star.

2. What activities do you recommend for this time of the year? We like to do outdoor activities (hiking, biking, kayaking, white-water rafting), but also want to rest and relax some since it is our honeymoon. Are the beaches close and nice for lounging during the day? We also consider ourselves to be amateur foodies and hope to have some unique restaurants to visit.

Thank you all for your help. It is much appreciated!

You might consider the Hyatt Regency at Incline Village (in Nevada). It is a beautiful hotel with a private beach and a pier where you can rent kayaks and other beach items. My wife and I like to grab a glass of wine and sit out by the firepits and watch the sunset over Lake Tahoe.

You should be able to do all the activities you listed except for white water rafting. With the low snowfall and rain it is possible it will not happen this summer.

If I wanted to stay in South Lake Tahoe, on the CA side, I'd choose the cozy Black Bear Inn, a B&B where you can choose your own style room.

We like the Hyatt in Incline Village, for a beautiful resort property, yet room to find romance for yourself on the property. We love the Lone Eagle Grill, dining in front of the roaring fireplace, the spa, and swimming pools. It's located on the NV side of the lake, so they do have a small casino off the lobby.

There is a new resort that has just opened at South Lake Tahoe called the Landing. I have been watching the construction, but I have no first hand knowledge other than what I have seen. They call themselves a five star resort (not sure how they got that?). The location is great and the prices I saw were not out of line.

The interior photos of the rooms look great. They seem to have fireplaces, sitting areas and some good views of the lake that other hotels don't have. It's a great addition to SLT. I'd like to see their grounds next time we are in Tahoe.

Thanks for letting us know about it,

There is a Ritz-Carlton in Truckee near Incline Village that is very, very nice. Even if you don't stay there, have a meal at the hotel. We went for lunch and were very impressed with the hotel and the quality of food. Also in this area @ The Hyatt is Lone Eagle Grill which has pretty views and very good food.

In South Lake Tahoe, we like the Marriott Timber Lodge. Evan's Gourmet Cafe, Cafe Fiore and Harvey's 19 Kitchen are a few of our favorite restaurants in this area. Enjoy your trip! :)
