Baja towns - Cabo San Lucas Alternatives

Our family will be taking our first trip to Baja Mexico and are considering alternatives to Cabo San Lucas. Our family enjoys learning and feeling a part of the communities we visit. Want the our two girls 15 & 16 to be able to walk about into town and feel secure doing so. Attracted to Baja for its laid back aura. Would like a beach setting near a small/medium town or village. Any thoughts?

Dear b6fischer:

Try Loreto on the Sea of Cortez. Small town, vey safe and affordable.

If you're willing to tour around I'd look at Todos Santos, La Paz, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo..that would make a really fun trip imo. :-)

My vote would be for La Paz. It is the capital city of the Baja CA. Sur and offers so much to see and do. It still has the charm of an old world city (beautiful architecture, museums etc.) without the touristy feel of Cabo San Lucas. This link will take you to an article that will whet your appetite! Any interest in Baja (which is the state on the north of Baja Sur)? If so, you could visit Rosarito Beach, where I live.
