Coming in by cruise ship in January and wonder about good beaches near the pier or within a reasonable ( time and cost) taxi ride, particuraly interested in going to Maho beach as I have checked for flights that day and there is 3 or 4 coming in.

We will be on a new NCL ship EPIC which holds 5,000 ppl so i don't want to do ship excursions. Tks in advance.

Depending on the time your ship departs Maho would be a nice stop to watch planes comming and going . Most larger plane are in the mid to late afternoon so take that into consideration.

Orient is always a great beach for first timers as is Pinel.

When we go to Maho, we usually stop at Mullet also.

It is not far and is a larger beach with chair/umbrella rentals.

They both have beach bar + decent food-not real expensive

Mullet is walkable from Maho and a much nicer beach.

Get a cab to Mullet early in the day and enjoy that beach.

You can walk over to Maho for afternoon plane watching.

You can get a cab back to the pier from the Sonesta Maho Hotel.

Cabs will be pricey, but it is the best way to get around for a day.

Go to Mullet Beach. It is gorgeous!!!!! That is my favorite beach there. I would stay away from Orient Beach when cruise ships are in, it get really really packed, you also get a lot of gawkers.

We Stayed in SXM for a week...

We went to most of the beaches but absolutely love Mullet Beach. It is gorgeous and generally not busy at all. The Orient Beach felt very busy to us. Maho is fun to be at for the incoming planes

Mullet was my favorite of the many beaches we visited. Unfortunately, we didn't discover it until the last day of our trip.

I highly recommend it.

How can I find out what days the cruise ships will be in? Or at least which days are busier?
