We are headed for St. Maarten/St. Martin next week. We will be staying at the Pelican Beach Resort. We also plan to have a rental car.

What are your MUST SEE locations?

What are your MUST DO beaches?

What are you MUST EAT HERE Restaurants?

Send me an email at JVR13@aol.com and I will send you a list my wife and I have put together for family and friends from 12 years of trips to SXM. (We just returned last week.) It's our answers to the 3 questions you ask.

The most beautiful spot on the island, so is a must do IMHO is Baie de l'Embouchure and Coconut Grove. It's part of the French Natural Reserve. Incredible views.

1) Pic Paradis - 1400 ft above the sea but don't go it alone, go in a group for safety sake. Check with the kind folks at Loterie Farm for group tours..

2) Loterie Farm, at the base of Pic Paradis -http://www.loteriefarm.net/

3) Ft. Louis - Marigot, views not as grand as at Pic Paradis but still spectacular

4) Ft. Amsterdam, Little Bay, grand views of Great Bay and the huge cruise ships.

Skipjacks seafood. The best lobster on the island. It's a stop one, if not two nights of our yearly trip.

Best beach is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. Orient Beach is beautiful with a lot of activities and beach bars (seadoo rentals, kayaks, banana boats, etc.) It's also the most crowded. Simpson Bay on the Dutch side is beautiful, calm with two great bars (buccaneer and green house).

Maho is the beach in front of the aiport flanked by a great set of bars and planes 10 feet above your head make for an experience.

What part of the island are you staying on?

They do rent scooters, the roads are good but not great, and some are very hilly - that a moped might not make it up. Alpha Car Rental rents Jeeps for $45 a day, and small cars for about $20 a day. That's a better bet than a scooter, as you can cover more ground quicker. We currently have a jeep with them, and always go through them on the family vacations as well.

June is a good contact there.

On a moped you will not relax because you will be fighting for your life. Don't do it. The roads and traffic are not conducive to riding these things.
