Marriott Oyster Bay

We just booked the Marriott Oyster Bay for next summer. After booking, i was a little concerned that the resort looked secluded. I welcome any suggestions as to shopping, car rentals, places to go, restaurants for non seafood eaters (i know, that sounds odd). Family of 4-parents and 2 adult children..And, any other info about this resort..Thanks!

i think you mean the Westin on Dawn Beach. I'm not aware of a Marriott anywhere on the island. The area is known as Oyster Bay (which is the bay located behind the restaurant, Coral Beach Club and Oyster Bay Resort on the opposite end of Dawn Beach. it's a great area! easy to navigate the entire island and located a stone's throw from the dutch french border. a few restaurants in the immediate area around Oyster Pond itself but wouldn't recommend walking because of the road to and from the westin. rental car is highly recommended to explore shopping, restaurants, casinos, and all the fab beaches sxm has to offer.

Oyster Bay Beach Resort is not a Westin. The Westin is down the other end of Dawn Beach.

The hotel is actually a timeshare resort located in the upscale area of Oyster Pond. In addition to hotels you will find private residences, villas, restaurants, a marina and so much more.

The OBBR is a nice place to stay. It isn't in the heart of the nightlife but being that you have children, I don't think this should matter much. During the day there's much to do around this area like beaches, horse back riding and the butterfly farm at Orient Beach, and I think of it as being on the back road to Philipsburg which is a good thing. Also, there's the SXM Zoo to visit.

OBBR is not a new resort but it is quite nice and their pool is very pretty (infinity) because it overlooks the Atlantic. You have some nice restaurants in the area as well. The only down part is that the roads are not well lit at night and personally, I don't like the road that leads to the resort. Once you get used to it though, it should not be a problem. Since you have 2 children, I doubt you will want to stay out late and so this resort should be perfect for you. Have fun!

Ooops....saw that the children were adults.... sorry about those "child" suggestions...lol. You'll still enjoy the resort. Just take it easy on the roads at night.

Don't ya just hate when you can't delete your own post and redo it...lol

sorry...when you said "marriott" i assumed you meant "westin" because that's the only other name brand resort in oyster pond. we stayed OBBR and honestly it depends on your room. some are in dire need of renovation, others have been somewhat renovated, some rooms fully renovated and then there's the new pavilion. room renovations are ongoing and mgmt is making every effort to update the resort. we would definitely go back to OBBR once ALL the rooms have been completed. we had a somewhat renovated room but others had a very bad time with their rooms and considering what i trade to stay there wouldn't want to chance it until the renovations are done. the location is excellent for visiting the entire island because of it's location on the dutch/french border area and loved that this is a smaller resort and not in a condensed, highly commercial area. recommend a rental car for getting around. not too much within "easy" walking distance but doable with care to the other side of the pond. wasn't impressed with "onsite" restaurants but there are a few within the area that were very good including 2 immediately outside the resort and a few across the pond. grand case dining is only 20 minutes away (best dining on the island)! feel free to pm me for specific info!

It is secluded. Stay in the resort at nigh or take a car. A woman disapeared 2 years ago (Leta Lynn Cordes) in fact it was featured in People magazine, the husband was a suspect at the time. She was on her way to the Westin but never made it.
