I will say that Calaguas is "Simply Paradise" and my TripAdvisor review and unadulterated low-resolution photos from a camera phone will show --> tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g2412438-d24…

I have a friend who just went there and he is sorely disappointed. He told me it is over hype.

Well, different people different stroke.

Unless the pictures are photoshopped the place looks fantastic. Only camping as accomodation though.

If you look at the reviews on tripadvisor the majority rank the place as excellent or very good. Have a look at the "real" photos on the reviews and make up your own mind.It doesnt appear to be overrated to me just under commercialised.

@ Tommo

Nearly ALL places in Philippines look fantastic ! I think it has something to do with the clear waters, clean sands and swaying palm trees :)

I have learnt that taking Picture postcard photos are a given in most beach spots in the Phils.

I guess it is the " other things" which decide the experience - as MH's freind may have mentioned.

As for me - I am already curious - and may in all probability try to visit and see for myself !! :))

Further, I think one big issue with Calaguas is getting there.

Isla Lipanas anyways is more of a business company which helps people set up businesses in the Phils - their " research" tends to be a precursor leading to this main job. And in the Phils, we first get resorts, then businessmen " coax" the government to build roads, then buses reach there!

I have heard that there is a plan or possibility for the airport at Daet to be reopened - don't know when though. Flight time from Manila would be about 45 mins. Then about 20 mins to Vinzons or 60 mins to Paracale by van.

With the lack of facilities, it is mainly restricted to beach and sea activities so I don't know what there is to do there, if your stay is more than 48 hrs. It is too hot most of the day to do much when the sun is out as there is little shade. Very much back to nature - apart from the beach parties!

However a glorious place to visit - thoroughly recommended.
