Hiring a car or 4x4 from cape town to Port Elizabeth

Will be arriving in cape town on the 3rd of jan and plan to spend 3 nights there before renting a car to drive to Port elizabeth ideally we would want to stay with one of the big names ie hertz or avis. Would love to rent an affordable pick up or 4x4 has anyone any tips

Car hire in SA has risen steeply in the last year or so

Do you really need a 4x4 ? The roads are excellent and even a decent touring car will get you round all the interesting off road destinations

I have been searching a lot recently and find that no one broker (who almost always use cars from the big boys Avis, Hertz etc) constantly offers the cheapest or best deal (not always the same - look out for excesses etc.) but you will find a good variety on www.travelsupermarket.com

Hi We have used Auto Europe for the last 4 years. We hire at least 3 times a year in Cape Town and fly out of Port Elizabeth.

We always request Hertz or Avis and their prices always seem to be most competitive.
