Transport from venice to rome

We will be leaving our cruise ship from Venice for Rome and need advice for transport to Rome. We want the easiest way as we are in our 60's and will have luggage to contend with. The train sounds nice but would the plane be easier as we could get a taxi from the cruise ship directly to the airport? We are staying in the centre of Rome. Just want the easiest doesn't matter about the cost so much.

the easiest is the train. it goes from center to center. You'll save little time with the plane.

Go to trenitalia.it, click the english flag and look at the trains.

The train could indeed by a problem if you have too much luggage, although I can never understand why going on a cruise means people must have big luggage. There is nobody to help you at the stations, there may be stairs to the platforms, and there are always a few steep steps up into the train.

You can take a taxi from your ship to Mestre station, on the mainland, where the taxi can get right to the station. You would still have to get your luggage up the steps into the train.

You can get a taxi direct from your cruise ship to a train station. Not to Venezia S. Lucia, which is the usual main station for tourists. But to Venezia Mestre, Venice's other main station on the mainland, which is about half the distance to the airport.

Fast trains leave Venezia Mestre at least once an hour for Roma Termini station in central Rome, taking 3.5 hours. This is almost certainly less time than it will take you to go through airport security and check-in, fly to Rome and then get transport from the airport into central Rome.

Thanks for you help, our cases are only normal size 1each but don't want to be carrying up too many stairs. Train sounds like a good option, thanks

Thanks for your advise, after getting the taxi to station is it very far to lug the cases?
