Cruise to Topolobampo. Things to do?

We will be in Topolobampo 9/24/09, cruising there on the Norwegian Sun. We have a mixed group, ages 18 to 70 years old and will be visiting there for two days.

Because of the elderly, we would like to do day trips but not the 18 hour excursion Copper Canyon, being that train transport will take up 12 of those hours.

Are there any activities we can do privately? The young set in the group are interested in learning history and experiencing the local cultures. We would love to visit the Indian village of Tehuecos, El Fuerte, Los Mochis, etc...Also, are there any places to kayak, horse back ride, hike or bike?

Can someone help? We have a very large group and paying the cruise prices for these excursions would be very hefty!!!

THANKS so much!!!!

LosMochis is 14.9 miles west of your port Topoplobampo. Around the port there are some ecoadventures in the sea.ElFuerte is another place in time ,with cobblestone streets and some nice restaurants. It will be very hot there. The train can be booked seperatley from the cruise, but it leaves Los MOchis at 6:00am arriving in El Fuerte a couple hours later.Heck ,with the train though there can be delays!Do a web search for a Mexican travel group called BestDay,they may have tour of the area. There are public buses from ElfUERTE to Los Mochis.OR,for a local tour company there is the 3Amigos in ElFeurte, they can provide information as they now have office there and have some Petroglyph and river tours.I highly reccommned them, and they have good prices.
