Where to stay btwn Bushkill Falls and Delaware rafting?

Hi, we're taking a 2-day trip from touring NYC to the Poconos and I picked out 2 main attractions that sounded nice, Bushkill Falls and a rafting trip on the Delaware River from near Port Jervis (Matamores). Can you suggest a place to stay somewhere in the middle? Wanted a nice place with a pool but didn't want a chain motel and also not to spend more than $180/night. Also, are those good choices for activities or have I missed the mark? First time in the area and just want some good views, water and a little river action. Mid-week end of July or first week in August. Thanks.

The Delaware is a great river for easy canoeing or kayaking, but it's not a good river for rafting unless you're just interested in a very lazy float. There are a few easy rapids, but it's mostly fairly calm water flowing at a leisurely pace. If you think you'll be going whitewater rafting you've made a mistake. About 40 miles further west in the Poconos you could go rafting on the Lehigh River, at White Haven. It's also a fairly easy river, but much better than the Delaware if you're looking for something that's even vaguely exciting. Unlike the Delaware, rafting trips only happen on weekends, when there are recreational releases from a reservoir, so that may not match your schedule.

Bushkill Falls is certainly a popular and pretty place, but there are lots of other great places in the Poconos. Depending on what you decide on for rafting (or anything else), you might find that things in other locations work better.

The direct route from Bushkill Falls to Matamoras or Port Jervis is almost all in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. You'll find some other waterfalls, and some camping areas, but nothing like a motel or resort. I'm sure there are some things a bit out of your way to the west, and things near either end, but nothing I could suggest.

If you're interested in switching to the Lehigh River and you can live without a pool perhaps you could consider a B&B in Jim Thorpe. It's a nice town with a lot of outdoor activities nearby. It's about 25 miles downstream of where the upper Lehigh trips start in White Haven.
