Flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo - need to book ahead?

Hi, with the domestic carriers that fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo, I am finding it somewhat difficult to book online. Any advice on this would be much appreciated. I tried searching for flights in July but one of the airlines only had like the schedules for the following week.

Thanks!

Here is a list of the airlines operating services to Flores (LBJ) from Bali (DPS):

All should be showing their available flights through their online booking pages.

✯ Merpati Airlines http://www.merpati.co.id/

✯ Sky Aviation http://www.sky-aviation.co.id/

✯ TransNusa http://www.transnusa.co.id/ [this one does not do online bookings]

✯ Wings Abadi Air (Lion Air) http://www2.lionair.co.id/

Where have you been viewing these flights?

If you are having trouble contact Bidy Tours.

They will do the booking for you with a credit card payment arranged by telephone.

Before you contact them have ready a scan of your passport page and the front and back of your credit card.

You will need to send them images of those, plus a signed payment authority to execute payment when you have made a flight decision.

It is a bank condition, not their own.

They are very obliging and reliable and they do not charge a ridiculous commission like many other agents do.

They are an IATA affiliated agent and authorised to issue both domestic and international ticketing.

Do try to make is as easy and straightforward as possible for them though as their commission is very modest.

Have a look at the airline websites linked above so you can determine your travel date and departure time, flight number and the standard price.

Do be aware that the price may fluctuate from day to day, and sometimes during the day. The price the agent locks in may be higher or lower than the price you see online.

Hi, thanks so much for your posts. I tried Merpati and Lion Air online. Both of them do not seem to work and gave me ZERO flight schedules which is quite frustrating. Do you know if maybe they do not have schedules for that far ahead?

Merpati:

Denpasar, Bali - Labuan Bajo

31/07/2013 MZ 6550, dep 09:20 arr 10:55. Flex-Rp704,000 Eco plus-Rp1,067,000

Denpasar, Bali - Labuan Bajo

31/07/2013 MZ 6552, dep 13:00 arr 14:35. Flex-Rp704,000 Eco plus-Rp1,067,000(Promo not yet available)

LionAir (operated by Wings):

JT 1830, Denpasar (Bali) (DPS), depart 10:20 Labuan Bajo (LBJ), arr 11:40

Promo : Sold Out : Economy Rp 797,000

(Promo likely actually not listed yet)

Note that on some days JT 1830 ATR72-500/600 (Wings) depart (DPS) 13:35, arrive (LBJ) 14:45

Eunice, you might also get some useful information from this concurrent discussion ... tripadvisor.com/…47809436

Post your dates here and I will look up the flight availability for your actual date required and post here for you.

I suggest you flush your browser cache, remove any cookies for Merpati or Lion Air, then quite and restart you browser, and try again.

Also, unless you want to retain your browser cookies for some reason you may prefer to delete the lot of them while you are there.

You should be seeing the flights.

The only day there are no flights listed is March 12, 2013, that is Hari Nyepi on Bali and the airport is closed down for the day.

Booking a bit ahead seems to make sense on this route, but if you get the timing right you will get the Promo fare.

Next Wednesday for example the flight is Rp928,000 per Wings, and there are no Promo fares listed.

7. Re: Flights from Bali to Labuan Bajo - need to book ahead?

Hey thank you so much! Eventually I did managed to get the flight schedules (hopefully they are correct!)

My proposed flights are:

Airasia to Bali (Wednesday 10 July 2013)

Depart Singapore at 9:25am

Arrive Bali at 11:55am

Connecting flight

Merparti Air

Bali to Labuan Bajo

Depart at 1:15pm

Arrive at 2:50pm

Return

Sky Aviation

Labuan Bajo to Bali

Depart 2:30pm

Arrive Bali 4pm

Airasia to Singapore

Depart Bali at 5:40pm

Arrive Singapore at 8:15pm

Do you think that is enough time for the connecting flights to and from Labuan Bajo?

Hi Eunice, your transit times are too tight.

Hopefully by July both the new international terminal and the reconfigured (ex existing international) domestic terminal will be fully operational.

This should make things smoother and more efficient.

However if that AirAsia flight is even slightly delayed on it's scheduled arrival into Bali at 11:55 then you are in trouble with making the minimum pre-flight check-in times for Merpati MZ 6552, dep DPS at 13:00, arr LBJ at 14:35.

Really it is just not enough time to get off the aircraft, process through Immigration, retrieve your bags, walk through Customs, then get across to the Domestic terminal, then find the Merpati check-in counter for your flight.

You only have 65 minutes for all this.

Merpati might not be very receptive past 12:15, and it might take you far too much time to get out of the International terminal and through the doors of the Domestic terminal even if you had a very speedy arrivals process.

Hard to know how long it will take to transfer between the new International terminal as neither of them exist in their future configuration at this time.

Reasonable to speculate though that it will certainly require 10 minutes +

Have a look here www.maps-for-free.com/… click on 'satellite in the top right hand corner as the map alone does not provide enough detail.

The L shaped building on the left is the existing International terminal, that should be the Domestic terminal by the time you arrive. The messy looking part is the construction of the new (and much larger) new International terminal.

On the way back you have similar issues.

A scheduled arrival from somewhere like LBJ with all it's traditional vagaries and an international departure scheduled only 100 min after your arrival is far too tight.

15-30 minutes wil easily go in de-boarding and retrieving bags, then you need another 10-15 minutes minimum to gat to the International terminal, enter the building and find the AirAsia checkin counter. That leaves puts you at the check-in counter 55 min before the flight, if you are lucky.

You need to rethink your plan.

Perhaps consider using Qatar Airways QR639 777-300ER departing DPS at 22:35, arriving (SIN) at 01:05

That gives you all day to get to Bali so is in effect is as good as coming over the day before.

At least that way if Sky Aviation does not operate for some reason then they might get you onto the Merpati flight leaving LBJ at 15:20

Another consideration for you is to ticket al the way to Singapore with LionAir.

You can do this on a single ticket. If it does not work out then it is LionAir's worry.

JT 1831 (ATR72-500/600): dep Labuan Bajo (LBJ) at 12:05, arrives Denpasar (Bali) (DPS) at 13:25

JT 23 (737-900ER): dep Denpasar (Bali) (DPS)15:00, arrives Jakarta (CGK) at 15:55

JT 158 (737-900ER): dep Jakarta (CGK) 17:55, arrives Singapore (SIN) at 20:35

That is just an example as some days flight JT 1831 from LBJ departs at 08:30 and arrives Denpasar (Bali) (DPS) at 09:50

That means you then have a choice of JT 1566, JT 158, or JT 160 for get from CGK to SIN.

Despite the annoying terminal change (T1 across to T2) at CGK the single ticket for the entire trip may offer some advantages.

The LionAir website does not want to bring up a ticket for SIN-CGK-LBJ, the flight time to LBJ departing DPS is to early for their daily departures from SIN
