Planning ski trip 12/26-1/2-Hotel/general questions.

Thinking very seriously about a ski vacation at this location. Just wanted to know if this is a good location for my wife and I. We are early 30's, intermediate skiers. Heavenly seems like a good mountain for our experience?? We don't need a lot of nightlife, we like to have a few cocktails and gamble in the evenings. Was looking at Marriott's Timber lodge for our stay. Just looking for other suggestion/options. Want something close to the lifts and casinos. Budget-anywhere from 3k-4k for air/hotel and lift tickets. Thanks for the help.

Also was wondering about the snowfall this time of year. I know no one can be sure, but any information of past seasons snowfall and ski conditions around this time of year would be very helpful, thanks again.

It sounds like Marriott's Timber lodge would be a good fit for you. The Heavenly gondola is extremely close and so are the casinos. Keep in mind this is a very busy time at Lake Tahoe.

I made a trip to Lake Tahoe last year during your time period, and the night before I was to drive home, the lake area got dumped on with 2 feet of fresh snow. The ski people were very happy.....the driving home people were not.

I think you've made a great choice. Very good location for skiing and easy walk over to the casinos. Dining is close by and a really good grocery store Raleys right at the corner of Park/Heavenly and Tahoe Blvd. They have a hot food section, deli, bakery just all around great store. Your unit should have a kitchen so you can really save some money and eat well.

Great choice.....you will be at a great location......right next to the gondola......Everything you need for your stay and ski will be within easy walking distance.

As you describe yourself......Heavenly will be a great choice.......lots of groomed....but some excellent intermediate tree skiing...........At Heavenly....you have to get into the trees.......perfectly spaced.........great for intermediate skiers looking for something beyond groomed terrain.

Not sure where you're flying into but money doesn't seem like an issue so I would rent an AWD car just in case we have a lot of snow!! Any ski resort will be very busy at that time of year but you might also consider staying at Squaw Valley, Squaw Creek is a really nice resort. If you have to gamble you could drive 45 minutes into Reno. I just like the North Shore over the South Shore, more locals and less tourists.

I am going the same time as you for the week, with 5 teen/adult kids for my 50th and my husband and some friends. I am in Austin, last week I was able to get all my airfare at $600 plus now it is over $800 a person. So your airfare will be quite a bit. I have a house rented since Nov of last year through VRBO plus extra rooms at Harrahs comped. The SUV through advantage mid-size 4 wheel drive was half price compared to other rental places with taxes and fees for 8 days $500. This is a once in a life time with my whole family at this time of year, so I splurged for my family and friends. For Heavenly ticket packages I have also seen packages through FunJet just for the lift and equipment but I haven't nailed down those prices yet.

I will be my first time for my birthday, I am also going tomorrow for 4 days and usually go once a year just with my husband. Good luck you will love the area it is my favorite place in the US.

Thanks for the help. Do you think there is a worry for snowfall this early in the season? And how "busy" is it usually? If there are going to be very long wait times for the lifts with questionable snowfall that might be an issue. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Every mountain is almost completely open by Christmas, the lift lines will depend on what chairs you ski. If you can ski an advance chair the lines will be fast but I've never find Tahoe lines long compaired to back East. I'm hoping for another great season but after last years record snow fall you never know?

You will be coming during the busiest time of the year here in Tahoe. However if your looking for lots of activity and fun you picked it right!

If anyone hasn't been in Tahoe over New Years you are in for quite the show. It is voted as one of top 10 places in the US to ring in the New Years. It was two years ago Tahoe was front page of the USA TODAY on 1/1 with a picture of very naked and very cold young gentleman perched on top of a traffic light pole. Lake Tahoe actually brings in the National Guard to control the crowds and shuts down the the main road running through the casino corridor, (Marriott through Mont Bleu).. It is quite the spectacle!
