First timer to Lake Tahoe..need feel if it's right

We would be first timers to Lake Tahoe. I'm not sure if this is a good place for us to visit due to our preferences to perhaps fellow TA can help me out. I want to be able to swim and enjoy the sun, but not fight beach/lake crowds... because i can do that in NJ. We like privacy, meeting new people and being in natural areas. We don't like casinos, but I'm open to being near a few good restaurants. I don't think we'd spend a whole week if we did go as we tend to wander and like to vary our destinations. For instance our last trip was in Moab, Colorado ranch (small one) and then on to RMNP and such. If it doesn't sound like a good place, I'm always open to other fellow travelers input. We were also considering going back to Utah.

Lake Tahoe is a popular vacation spot. In the summer it's going to be crowded. If you don't want to "fight beach/lake crowds" you may want to check out hotels with their own private beach area. Try the Hyatt at Incline Village.

It completely depends upon what time of year you visit and what part of the lake you stay on. If you come in the fall and stay, say around Fallen Leaf Lake, I think you could get what you are looking for. Fallen Leaf Lake is very close to Tahoe on the south west side near Emerald Bay. Lots of hiking/walking opportunities in the area.

We just got back from Lake Tahoe and stayed a week at the Hyatt in Incline Village. While summer can be crowded, we never had to search for parking, want for restaurants in walking distance, or worry about a place on the lake or a lounge at the swimming pools. You can deny kayaks or boats from the beach, they have their own dock.
