Transport from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe

My 18 year old daughter is travelling from Australia to work at Sierra at Tahoe for a few months over the Christmas period. She will be flying into Sacramento about 11am and i am trying to help her look for transport from the Airport to Sth Lake Tahoe. I have found a Amtrak bus that leaves around 10.15am each day. Is this the only service?

Also, our family are travelling to visit her over the Christmas break and was wondering if someone could advise where would be the best (moderate cost) place to stay. We are planning to fly into LAX and hire a car to drive to Tahoe.

Couple of thoughts, can she fly into Reno instead? I think there are more transport options from Reno airport to various ski slopes. Another options may be to take Amtrak train from Sac to Truckee, and then from there to Sierra at Tahoe, which is near south Lake Tahoe.

Agree with TSS about flying to Reno instead if possible. I will leave the Sacramento transport to others.

As to where to stay when you visit, many affordable options in South Lake Tahoe. How many and what is your budget? Moderate means different things. Our family rents condos or houses/cottages from vrbo several times a year. We have been to North and South Tahoe many times and rented from vrbo. vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/…south-lake-tahoe

As for driving from LAX, I assume you know you will have to prepare for winter driving conditions with a SUV with 4WD? Not in the budget to fly into Reno as well?

Flying into Reno allows her to take the regular casino buses that go from Reno-Tahoe Airport to South Lake Tahoe- Stateline area.

Sierra-at-Tahoe should have a bus that picks up skiers in them morning and drops them off in the evening.

I would also suggest you fly into LAX or San Francisco and then on to Reno where you can either rent a car ( 4WD) or take the casino bus to the same Stateline area.

We live in LA, yet fly into Reno in Winter for our ski holiday. Check out flights on Southwest Air, price around $100 depending when she flies. Lots of transportation over to Lake Tahoe.

Obviously no flights from Oz to Reno. But compare LAX to SFO from Oz. Like the others...need to know your budget in dollars, not adjectives. Christmas hotel rates will probably by higher and advanced booking would be very smart.
