Driving around in Senja

Hello,

Planning a trip with the wife to Senja. Will be flying from Toronto to Tromso, rent a car and then ferry it to Senja (ideally)

Questions:

1. Is there a better alternative both financially and economically? Or those who have already rented a car could you link me to venders who have automatic transmission (can't drive manual)

2. Is driving easy around that time of year? We like to hike and I love landscape photography and also hoping to see the auroras so not sure how accommodating guided tours are when it comes to my needs.

Thank you

1. Car rental companies are listed on the airport page - you should be able to find an automatic. Tip - all hybrids are automatic. Sorry, no idea which ones offer more automatics than the other, but I would start with Avis.

Ferry Tromsø-Senja is seasonal - we need to know your time of travel.

2. When exactly is "that time of year" ?

The ferry from Kvaløya (Tromsø) to Senja ends at September 2nd, so you've to drive around. Please check the route here, incl. the Senja highlights, https://goo.gl/maps/WXg5xcemRzu

For more Senja info, please check http://visitsenja.no

Two great accommodations, http://hamnisenja.no and http://www.mefjordbrygge.no

You've choose a beautiful time for your drive, in the middle part of the most Autumn colored time, fingers crossed that you get sunny weather too..;)

At Hamn i Senja I personally had during an overnight stay real issues with loud partying guests (wedding I guess) and the bed in the real small room was much too soft. I think / hope a singular experience.

Location and hotel is beautiful.

@Gunnar: I am surprised of your not very neutral kind of reaction. Why do you need to isolate my experience here? This is no outvoting or overruling competition. Even 10 good stays of you at a location does not change one not so good experience of another person. I think it is worth to know for travelers what others liked or disliked to make their own decision. Are you personally involved there (owner, related, friends)?

Thank you for @GuideGunnar. It looks to be around a 5-hour drive, which I don't mind; but are there gas station on the way? I'm always wary about long driving in distant places lol. I will look into reputable car rental companies as well.

I am sorry, Infojunky; I just “duplicate” your message, by telling the travelers that there’s enough of negative / positive reviews of the place...

I knew close to all accommodations in Northern Norway, not friends with anyone, colleagues only.

But, of course, I lift up the places I like most, and see that as a quite normal act..;)

By the way, Hamn has a way to go, when we talk about theirs food, but now they have said that they will build it up to a better level...
