The Harbour & Gulf are the main attractions - even a short ferry trip to Devonport is a must; If you have longer a day trip to Waiheke Island; A trip up the Sky tower; drive to the top of Mt Eden for a city panorama; drive around the waterfront to Mission Bay; the Museum in the Domain.

I would suggest that you buy a ticket for the explorer bus and spend 1 of your days doing the hop off/hop on tour of Auckland on the bus.

This will give you a great overview of most of the city.

The other day you could go up the Sky Tower, explore the Viaduct Harbour, go shopping in Ponsonby, take a ferry to Devonport, go to Victoria Park Market... these are just a few possibilities

Heres the website for the explorer bus...

For accommodation, good to stay in or around the Queen St area - there is a huge variety of accommodation ranging from hotels like the ALL SEASONS, JUCY HOTEL for under NZ$100 for a double, up to the Hilton, or the Langham, at around NZ$400.

My recommendation would be one of the mid range self contained apartment style places...

try THE QUADRANT, ELLIOT ST APARTMENTS, ISTAY (OAKS) RESIDENCES - these a should all have 1 bedroom apartments from about NZ$160 approx...

Hi

For an overview of Auckland have a look at:

www.aucklandnz.com

I suggest Mission Bay/St Heliers for beaches with view over the harbour towards the extinct volcanic island of Rangitoto and a back drop of cafes and restaurants.

If you are interested in Maori culture then the Cultural Concert/Performance at the Auckland Museum is not to be missed. Have a look at:

www.aucklandmuseum.com

Other places of interest include the Viaduct Basin, Maritime Museum , Sky Tower and for shopping either Parnell for boutique type shops or Newmarket just up the road which is arguably the best shopping area in Auckland.

You may also wish to take the 45 minute ferry ride over to Waiheke - a good way of seeing the harbour.

With regard to accommodation anywhere in downtown Auckland and/or near the Viaduct Basin is convenient. The abov Auckland site has a section on accommodation or also take a look at www.wotif.com.
