Getting to Grassi Lake - without a car/ Tour operators

Hi there,

I am looking to make a daytrip to Canmore some time in October and I would much appreciate advice on the following:

- Other than downtown Canmore, I am also interested in to Grassi Lake. However, I am not driving and will need to depend on either public transportation or taxi (or by walking).

- Is it possible to take a taxi to the trailhead ? (I suspect getting back may be a challenge). Is there any other options of getting to the trailhead of Grassi Lake ?

- Are there any tour operators doing a full or half day tours around Canmore ? I cant seem to find such tours.

Any advice would be much appreciated !

Thanks in advance !

Stan

There are no tours of Canmore that I am aware of other than Banff Discover tours that takes people out to the Grotto Canyon just outside of Canmore, but I think that is only in winter. They do a summer trip to explore the Rats Nest Cave. banfftours.com/banff-activities-and-tours/su…

The only public transportation in Canmore is the Roam bus that recently started operating between Banff and Canmore, but it only makes a few stops around downtown, etc. roamtransit.com/schedules-routes/maps-times

I think your only option would be to take a taxi. I took a look through the various companies and many do state they can offer a tour price or have trail head service. Their links are listed below. Hope that helps you a bit.

I've also not heard of any tours in Canmore.

Grassi Lakes is out by the Canmore Nordic Centre, but there are no buses there. The only other option besides a taxi would be to rent a bike. It's a longish bike ride, but you certainly see people biking up there to go to the Nordic Centre or the other trails.

Hi Travelbug and ksneds !

Thanks for those wonderful suggestions and links to the various taxi companies! I've actually contacted 2 of the operators and they've confirmed that the fare will be $15 from downtown to the Grassi trailheads.

Looking forward to spend a day or so in Canmore !

Thanks again !
