We were astounded to learn, on our most recent of several visits to Yummy Yummy, the new Japanese Thai restaurant in Owen Sound,
that if you enter a tip on your credit card slip, your server (unless it's the owner!) does not see one cent of it. The only way a server gets any tips is if you slip him/her the cash.
This is absolutely unacceptable in today's world. Cultural differences do not make it OK to defraud a customer of that 10-20% of his bill that he might leave for the server. Even worse, to deprive staff of what is hard-earned income is despicable to say the least.
We are sure the Ministry of Labour and the Canada Revenue Agency would love to hear about this.
Heads up, Yummy Yummy - you are creating wonderful food - don't
alienate your customers by treating your staff unfairly! Because we love your food, we are giving you another chance here; however, if we hear that you have not changed your treatment of staff, you will
not see another cent of our restaurant spending.
