Lodging Convenient to Hike in Strathcona Park

My family will be fishing in Campbell River for a few days in August 2007 and want to also hike in Strathcona Park. Is lodging in Campbell River the best location to get to good hiking in the park or would access to the park be more convenient from somewhere in or nearer the park? Any suggestions on places to stay welcome.

The Strathcona Park Lodge is about as convenient as you can get so if hiking is the top priority, you might want to consider staying there. But otherwise, it's not a terribly long drive up to the park from Campbell River.

If you are going to be fishing in Campbell River, then I'd recommend staying there as usually when you go fishing you have to be up and out on the water early, so you wouldn't want the extra drive from Mt. Washington. When you want to hike Strathcona park then you can either do it from Mt. Washington (appx 25 mins to the South) or from Strathcona Park Lodge (appx 35 mins to the West).

Strathcona Park Lodge is a great place to base for hiking, and they have free Provincial Park maps, and guidebooks for sale. In the fall there are school programs onsite, so good to call ahead for availability.

Why not rent a chalet up on Mt Washington for two days,, get one with a view and a hot tub,, !! The summer rates are very good as it is primarily a ski resort, but there is good hiking and mountain biking in summer.

Just google " Mt Washington British Columbia accomadations" . There are many " Mt Washingtons ,, so don't forget the B.C.
