Other than the thousand island cruise, what else?

I've one whole day to spend in either Kingston or Gananoque and I can't decide which one to spend my day on.

I would like to take the cruise from Gananoque but that would only take up about 3 hours. After that, I'm not sure what else there is to do in Gananoque. Any suggestions? By the way, I'm not driving so that restricts my options a bit.

Hello akailing,

There is plenty to do in the Kingston-Gananoque area but without a car I would suggest Kingston. There are three hour boat tours from Kingston as well as historic Fort Henry and a beautiful waterfront and downtown area. With Kingston you will also have a bigger selection of restaurants and hotels accessible by public transportation.

Good luch with your planning.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. I will consider the two areas. Does that mean that there's nothing much in Gananoque besides the cruise?

Hello again,

There isn't much to do without a car, but you can fill a whole day in Gan (or many days if you enjoy just walking in great scenery).

You could walk along some of the many trails along the St. Lawrence River and around the town. There are hundreds of kilometers of trails in the region.

There is mini-golf and a casino for entertainment on the east side of town.

You could take a 1, 2.5, 5, or 8 hour cruise on the water. The longer cruises make a stop at Boldt Castle which is on an American island and your passport is required.

Or you could watch a play at the 1000 Islands playhouse which has shows on many nights throughout the summer.

I personally prefer Gananoque on a sunny summer day, but I always have a car while I'm there and I'm not sure what the public transportation is like (just taxis?). If you are looking for more shopping and restaurants when not on the water, then Kingston is the better choice.

Ok, so I guess Gananoque is more of relaxation in a closer to nature environment. Kingston is a city with more to offer in terms of sightseeing and and cultural/historical landmarks. Hmm, will choose one or the other soon. Will definitely share my experience after my trip! Thanks for your help.
