Please could anyone tell me what the weather will be like

in Kimberley in March, a group of us from England are going

skiing, staying at the Trickle Creek Inn. Any other info would be

greatly appreciated.

1. Re: Weather

Hi

March weather = long days of sunshine = SPRING SKIING .

Depending upon time of month there may or may not be fresh snow = more snow early in month, less fresh as time goes by. Soft conditions will be provided by sun warming slopes.

Resort is usually open til the first or second weekend in April - so you should anticipate "Spring" skiing, if mid to late March. "Spring" skiing usually equates to hard "frozen" snow in the morning and in the shade until sun warms and softens slopes. Main part of hill (quad chair) faces directly east so it gets soft fairly quickly. some slopes face west and therefor are slower to soften up. IT WILL BE SUN TANNING weather so bring your sun screen. All in all a fun time to be on the mountain. The best month for skiing, in my mind, is February - usually fresh snow fall couple times/week + longer days but not the warmer temps of March.

The Kootenay area is one of the sunniest areas in Canada = March 2008 should not disappoint.

Alternative ideas include Kootenay Ice Hockey game in Cranbrook (25 minute drive) + five theatre cinema, shopping ++ (22,000 people vs. 7,000 in Kimberley)

For more fun goto www.kootenayrockies.com and find Hot Springs link. . worth the effort if you have the time.

Have fun

Thanks for the info, last few years we have been

skiing in France in January so temperatures have

been FREEZING with the exception of this year!

What is the temperature like after sun down in mid

March?

Will be great to get a bit of a tan whilst skiing.

Can't wait for March to come round.

Mid-March - is the near the "end" for skiing, most years. "End" means that you will be experiencing sunshine, up to +5C temps during the day and not too much below freezing at night. Stops snowing - first week of March(?). "Spring Skiing" is what you should anticipate = skiing on groomed corduroy (groomers will work a number of runs, every night) during the morning, and then sun softened runs throughout the resort in the afternoon. It's usually a "relaxed" time of year for us locals = kick back and enjoy the bar-b-que at the bottom of the hill, sip a few cool ones, soak up some sun and feel the "health and glow" of a ski tan :-). Lazy ski days vs. hard skiing when it's cooler and fresh snow makes you want bogey and get out and sip the powder. . .

Best thing about Kimberley is that we do get "spring skiing" = mid-March at Fernie usually means rain on lower elevations + socked in.

You need to understand that "spring skiing" will likely not bring on fresh snow powder daze - it is what it is. If you enjoy skiing grromed runs in bright sunshine it likely doesn't get any better.

Having reread the above, I'd much rather be able to tell you this weeks $17 million lottery jackpot numbers than predict March weather in Novemer = I could be dead wrong about snowfall, but not the fact that the sun "should be" shining, everyday. After all it's a "La Nina" snow year for weatern North America. . .

For fun, add the following site to your "favourites" =

skikimberley.com/conditions/snow-report.aspx

It is KAR's snow report page - nice picture of the Easter Chair in today's effort

Cheers

Living in this area = we've already won the lottery - please come over and enjoy what this area has to offer.

kootenayrockies.com/360/kimberley/platzl.htm = take a peak?

- don't foget about "downtown" Kimberley. Bavarian theme has some "unique" restaurants + a couple of pubs. Above link is 360 of summer time view. Restaurants (2?) at base of hill tend to be very busy - sometimes a two sitting wait; while downtown typically not. . Downtown merchants usually have "free" shuttle to Platzl late day/early evening.

REcommend - Bauern Haus - 200(??) year old building that was moved from Austria and re-erected near KAR Resort - reservations required = food usually quite good (quasi walking distance to resort base depending upon how much you eat/imbibe).

+ see my other posts under "Kimberley Forum" for more ideas and links.

we went to kimberley last xmas for 10 days it was great but limited in terms of the size of the mountain, however if you are going as a group you will also have the opportunity of going to fernie for the day.It is quite an un discovered part of the world and the locals are not so up to speed as seen in other resorts ie electronic passes.the runs are good plenty of snow friendly people and night skiing!!free shuttle takes you down down but be warned it is a small place.all the accomodations looked good we were happy with our the only down side was that the airport was closed and we were dent to edmonton with delay of some 7 hours but beieve it or not we were not bothered because the snow was worth it !!
