Lodging for 1 person in Bamfield, BC

I'm a single person coming into Bamfield by boat from Pt. Alberni for a couple of days or so and want to see the area -- not fish, particularly.

Does anyone have firsthand experience on a place to stay that's not SO expensive, pleae?

A *very* busy place this time of year.

Try http://www.seabeamcanada.ca/Accomodations.htm or http://www.poettnook.com/rates.html

mid week would be best.

Both of the places you mentioned seem a little primitive and fishing-oriented to me. "Bunkhouse" type accomodation is cheap, but....

Any other ideas?

You could always camp.

As to 'primitive' well Bamfield is a tiny tiny place and everything is expensive, sport fishing rules the roost this time of year and one of the links I gave you rents small trailers.

Woods End now has some condo options http://www.woodsend.travel.bc.ca/

Most of the rest are here bamfieldchamber.com/directory.html#cottages

If it's self catering you end up in take your own food.

We stayed here:

http://www.westcoastmagic.com/

The hosts were lovely and their house and garden beautiful. We were a 5 minute walk from Brady's Beach, which is stunning. You are on West Bamfield, so you have to pick up the water taxi to get over to the east side where the marine station is. It's not cheap (he knows he's the only gig in town), but if you are only there for a couple of days, you may be happy to sit on the beach and read a book.

We did have some trouble with meals, and found it easiest to just book dinner at the B&B. She also made us packed lunches for our day on the beach. There is a small grocery store on the boardwalk where you can pick up supplies, and a good pub on the east side near the dock. The $50 tour of the Marine Station is a complete rip off. Just wander around, no one will stop you.

Thanks so much: very helpful. I went with McKay Bay Lodge because they gave me a great rate and it includes meals. Appreciate your input.

We just returned from Bamfield and toured McKay Bay Lodge. Very nice people and very nice place. You'll be happy with it - however, a longer walk to the General Store. They will let you borrow a kayak or paddle boat to explore the inlet.

This post started last year but I can tell you that Brian and Cheryl run a first class place for fishing and hiking.
