Can anyone recommend good restaurants in Garda?

We are off the Garda for the first time next month and would be grateful for any recommendations of decent places to eat. We would prefer somewhere reasonably priced with good food (obviously!) and not at all 'posh'. We are staying B&B at the Hotel Roma so will be in the centre of Garda with no car so easy walking distance would be good.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, the Hotel Roma is in a great position in Garda and you will have many restaurants to choose from literally within a few paces of the front door. The best advice I can give is to choose a place that is busy, especially if it is busy with Italians, as that will be an indication of good food. You can stroll past and check menus and prices before going in.

Try the Golden Gate Wine Bar and Restaurant I ate there this summer and the food was excellent. The prices are resonable also. It is near the town center by a art gallery. Once you find it you will know you are there. It has a raised glass floor with beautiful sand scaupltures under it. Check out the pictures and my review under restaurant reviews Desenzano Del Garda.

If you don't mind walking a little, Osteria La Cross along the road to Costermano/affi isn't bad

We have just returned from Garda and had 3 excellent meals out.

We ate at the Valentino which is up a side street just away from the lake side - has some tables outside with yellow and rust red tablecloths on. If you go up the street at the side of Faro restaurant its on the left. We had a lovely meal there - excellent atmosphere, good pasta and service!

we also ate at Al Graspo, which is a fish restaurant. The way it works is you go in and they bring you loads of small fish dishes, there is no menu, they cook what has been freshly cooked, and mix it with loads of sauces etc. It really is good. I am not a big fish eater but really enjoyed it, my other half who loves fish found it wonderful. They serve you wine and water as well, and then coffee and small desserts at the end. they seemed to charge everyone 35 euros and gave you a free bottle of wine! excellent place again superb atomsphere and lots of locals eating in there. The restaurant is near the underpass on Via Italia just where it goes into the pedestrianised section of the town. (not the bus station end of town)

the 3rd restaurant was on the lake front, very close to Hotel Roma, it was called Miralogo, and again the food and service was superb.

sorry have realised - the Valentino is not the name of the restaurant with the yellow and orange tablecloths - the name of the restaurant escapes me (the Valentino was a great restaurant in Sirmione) but you would know it when you saw it.

El Graspo - the fish restaurant - is situated on the junction of Via Don Carlo Gnocchi with Corso Italia - the main road that runs through the town - just go through the subway to the lake side of the main road and its on your left.

Try the Silvestro on the front, ask any Italian in Garda and they will send you there. It is reasonably priced, and superb food. Been 3 out of the last 5 years, absolutely brilliant. Also the Vaticano in Riva if you are ever up there.
