Two full days at Lake Garda

We will have two days to see Lake Garda. We are staying at Desenzano and will spend one day at Sirmione. What would be the best way to spend the second day? I am disabled and can't walk far. Normally when we visit a place we take the sight-seeing buses which allows me to sit and take in the sights without tiring me out.Is there anything we can do similar to this in a pretty place that you could recommend? Thanks.

We are staying in Bardolino . For a day out we are going to go on one of the slow boats up to the north of the lake to Limone. We will have lunch here then catch the boat over to Riva and then the bus back down to the south. The boat takes about 2 and half hours but you get a lovely view of the lake and most of the places on the way up.

Agree with cass 19 - catch the slow ferry up the lake and either the fast boat or bus back down - great views all the way (including Sirmione).

We stayed at Desanzano last week and the place has a nice feel about it . At the moment there are lots of markets and live music at night.

We planned a day at Sirmione and ended up having the obligatory look and getting out of the place. It was way too full of tourists and tacky shops. The Lake itself is beautiful as are all of the Italian Lakes - relax and enjoy.

Thank you both for your replies. Is there anywhere else other than Sirmione that you could recommend us visiting. Also how much does it cost to take the slow ferry up the lake? Thanks

The full fare per person to Limone from Desenzano is about 13 euro's or to Riva about 15 euros. The journey takes about 2 and half hours stopping at varies towns on the lake. The bus back takes about an hour not sure of the fare but not more than about 4 euros. We are staying at Bardolino this year we think its the nicest town on the lake and not far for you to travel too. You could do Bardolino and Garda both are nice towns. Sirmione has a little train that goes around which might suit but it is a really busy place.

The slow ferry from Desenzano to Riva takes over 4 hours at a cost of €15.10, the fast boat takes 2 and a half hours at a cost of €20.40.

I am travelling with my 8 year old son and we have a full day of excursions to fit into 1 day, a Friday. We will be staying in Bardelino and will want to travel by foot and boat. We know its going to be tiring but we have such a short time and want to see as much as possible.

I really need help with an itinerary, ideally we would like to visit Garda by foot then onto Torri Del Benaco and then onto Malcesine. Would this be possible to do??

Any ideas or itinerary would be a really great help, Kindest regards,

Hi Louise, when will you be travelling? This is the boat timetable up until October 6th:

navigazionelaghi.it/file2/…201.pdf

As you can see, there are very few boats to Torri del Benaco. To travel to Torri by boat from Garda then from Torri by boat to Malcesine you would need to take the 9.05 fast service from Garda arriving at 9.17, followed by the 11.17 slow boat from Torri to Malcesine.

It would be easier if you used the bus for part of your plans:

Many thanks for the information, the timetables are fantastic and we now have 1 day fully covered, we are both very excited. we will walk to garda, take the fast boat to Torri and then get the bus to Malcesine and just need to decide long boat trip back or take the bus!.

Would you happen to have a timetable for the bus and boat to Sirmione from Bardelino? as we may be able to squeeze that in on the other half day?

Thanks for your help so far, Kindest regards, Louise

Hi, the boats from Bardolino to Sirmione are on the same timetable as for getting to Torri and Malcesine.

To get to Sirmione by bus you would have to take one bus to Peschiera (the 162, same as above) then another bus to Sirmione:
