family trip along with old people and baby need your help

hi

we are a griup of 17 people (including 2 old people and a baby). will be in lake garda for 4 days in july.

we will be arriving from Milan by train and staying in Desenzano del Garda.

is it easier to rent a car or rely on buses and ferries? we want to see some villages around the lake plus do one day trip to verona.

was trying to look for different activities and below is what i gathered.

- Sailing/boat trip (is there an execution that goes over couple of villages or we have to just decide on ferries and go, what villages do you recommend to see)

- Cable car (is it worth it? how long will it take/ maybe combine with trip to north side)

- Verona trip (what to do there?)

- Relax on beach (is coco beach a good option, we have 5 teenagers with us so want to make sure they also have fun)

- gardaland

anything else that i missed?

thanks

Hiring depends on how much travelling around, if there are a few people travelling together it could work out cheaper than the ferries. How are getting from Milano to Desenzano del Garda? Travelling with older people and a baby would certainly be easier and quicker with a car, otherwise you will have rely on longish bus or train journeys.

If you only want to see a couple of towns by ferry then its probably cheaper just to pay as you go. There are daily tickets for either the whole lake, the lower lake or the upper lake but these are expensive so you need to carefully work out the best options.

This is the ferry timetables and fares chart

Sirmione is interesting with its narrow strreets, castle and Roman ruins, Salo has a long lakeside promenade, Bardolino and Garda are nice towns with lakeside promenades and pedestrianised centres.

The cable car is well worth doing, but only if the weather is fine and clear. Unfortunately its not that easy to reach from Desenzano by public transport. You either have a long ferry ride or two buses, 2-3 hors whichever way you do it. If you had a car you could drive north to either Maderno or Limone then take the car ferry across to the eastern shore. You could use the ferry for one way and return via either the north or south of the lake.

Verona is easily reached by train, bur or car and is a very walkable city, chuches, monuments, the arena and shops.

Gardaland is on the eastern shore, the easiest is probably train to Peschiera del Garda the the free shuttle bus to Gardaland.

Don't know much about the beaches in Desenzano but all around the lake they tend to be fine shingle rather than sand. I believe the beach areas around Desenzano are bigger than most others.

There is also a bus from Desenzano travelling northwards as far as Riva del Garda and also to Sirmione, Peschiera del Garda and Verona.
