Planning Lake Garda with small children, advice needed

Hi we planning a trip to lake Garda mid August for a week with our 1 & 4 year old.

I am looking at staying either in Garda or Torbole. I know they are at opposite ends of the lake but wonder which would be better for us.

We are obviously going with small kids so we will have a buggy so looking for easy walking.

I have been told resorts up in thd north like Torbole don't get evening sun because of the mountains. Is this right?

Finally although its not a major point for our holiday is there any hotels with kids club or entertainment?

Hi, where will you be flying into and how will you be travelling around?

If you are flying into Verona then Garda is a much shorter transfer time, which may be better with young children than travelling to Torbole.

Both Garda and Torbole are flat with lakeside paths for easy walking with a buggy. From Garda you can walk along the lakeside path to Bardolino and further to Cisano and possibly Lazise. From Torbole there's a path to Riva along the lakeside and also one to Arco to the north. Bear in mind though that in August it could be very hot so you may not want to walk too far. The far north of the lake has a reliable breeze from lunchtime onwards which can be a welcome relief in hot weather.

It's true that parts of the north don't get late evening sun because of the mountains, but that's more true of Limone and parts of Riva. It shouldn't be an issue in Torbole, but it isn't a problem at all further south on the eastern shore.

To be honest, if you want children's entertainment then the best places are the campsites but I think you may have a problem trying to find accommodation for mid-August.

Very few hotels offer children's entertainment. One in Torbole - the Cub Hotel la Vela - has a kids' club but it's for ages 4 - 12.

Near the town of Torri del Benaco is Le Torri del Garda which has family entertainment, but you would need a car:

Mid-August is only a month away and is the busiest time at the lake, so you may have problems finding suitable accommodation. One of the most important dates is August 15th when all of Italy is on holiday.

Try www.booking.com or www.venere.com for your specific dates and requirements.
